Reusable Fittings on HP hose

Do you put lubricant on the hose to spin on the fitting and if so what lubricant do you use? I've tried a couple different lubricants and all they've done is soften the hose and cause premature failures. Thanks.

I use liquid hand soap, a little bit down the hose and a little on the fitting that goes into the hose and screw it together. I've never had a problem with them leaking. I got a deal on the hydraulic hose crimper so now I use that for 99% of my hoses.

I just squirt a little wd-40 on it.

I've used mineral spirits. It lubricates pretty well and evaporates without harming the hose or leaving residue.
