Cat 3535 worth the upgrade?

Would you spend extra on an equipment upgrade from a general emperor HTCK4050S to a cat 3535 for an extra $1300 to get the cat 3535?

It is an option but not sure if worth it I know people love cats but the emperor line from general seem pretty well built says it can run dry for hours and the general is rated at 1500 psi where the cat says a max of 1200 psi.

I'd spend the extra. General made good pumps 30 years ago, but since the late 90's they're pretty bad. It's a challenge just keeping oil in them.

I would spend the extra in a heartbeat. Then once set up you don't need to worry about it for a good while.

I would run, not walk, away from anyone who says their pump can run dry for hours.

They probably mean unprimed but not dry as a bone.

Even unprimed, after a few minutes any water in the pump would have evaporated. These pumps mean business. Run a pump for 2 minutes without the trigger pulled, and then put your hand on the pump head. You can cook a hot dog on it.

I've had such good luck with Cats I just can't find a reason to even try another pump. Many have 200K cars on them with no issues with not so much as a seal kit. As far as running dry, that's cool, but any pump that size should be protected from running dry with a low level switch.

Ok the vote is in upgrading to the 3535! I have an old one I am going to take off of the old equipment I am removing and I will have that as a backup. Are these usually plug in play or you you have to change stuff out before installing a 3535 from one equipment to another.

They haven't changed the 3535 at all.

I just went the other way. From Cat 3535 to Emperor HTCK4050S. The Emperor runs much smoother and quieter than the Cat pump ever did. I was able to re-use the pulleys but had to get a new bushing as the shafts are not the same size. Plus, your belt length will probably change because the pumps are not the same physical size.
