I've got a two year-old Razor where the motor or gearbox in the carriage is making a whirring noise. It's the motor that moves the arch from side to side. In your experience is this an indicator of future failure?

First good for you for listening to your machine. The noise you describe sounds like the bearings. Most motors state on them what bearings to use. Together they are less than$10. Takes about an hour or less. Good idea to soak all parts with penetrating oil. You will have saved $200 or so.

It will fail but it might take several months or more. I've had one doing it for at least 3 months and it is getting worse. I have a spare motor and gearbox ready when it does fail.
