For the first time in my life I find myself with nothing to do. How have any of you dealt with this? Will always be active here but don’t want this to be my life. Don’t see me as deliveryind doughnuts to the old folks home. The Pope has not answered my requests
For a
Meeting, Nor has NASA.

Stripping definitely out of the question. Maybe volunteer as a driver for the local blood bank, meals on wheels, or whatever charity you prefer. Would give you a chance to make up for all the evils you perpetrated as a salesman.

Hell I plan on hanging on to one of my washes until they put me in the ground for precisely this reason. I would go nuts with nothing to do.

You have skills that some organization can utilize. Find somewhere to volunteer.
I coach a youth Trap and Skeet team for my local sportsman's club. When my son graduates next year I have no intention of stopping.
The local youth baseball club is looking for t-ball coaches. I loved doing it when my kids were young. I'm trying to resist taking on the responsibility.
Habitat for Humanity?
Volunteer for veterans affairs office doing some basic repairs on vets homes?
We have a local organization that trains service dogs. They are always looking for people to help raise puppies and teach them some basic obedience. Who doesn't love puppies?

There are times when volunteering is a PIA but ultimately it is worth the challenge. Your other option is to start golfing but we already have a guy here that Can'tBreak80.

This is the perfect opportunity to wander aimlessly about doling out unsolicited and inappropriate advice to random strangers on the street.

I'm still very much working, but like the idea of volunteering after my small business days are over.

Whatever you do, make it quick. My Dad was retired for 3 months before he got really, really bored. Now we run an auto workshop together, along with 8 full time staff. Safe to say he's not bored any more.

MAC, out of curiosity, what is your age? I've always wondered myself what would 'retirement' look like? When my dad retired, he came to the washes 7 days a week, was gone by noon to the golf course. Without the washes I'm not sure how he would have filled all those hours.

take a class in some thing you've always wanted to learn more about. Work on those home projects that you haven't been able to get to. Buy an old car and fix it up a little bit so you can drive it on the weekends etc. Join a gym and work out. The endorphin rush will make you feel great.

Good advice as usual. Will find something soon or my wife will shoot me. Rethinking my training her on handguns. Still hoping to hear from NASA. I think I can rebuild one off those turbo liquid oxygen pumps.

I see a lot of retired people who become drivers moving cars from one state to another. A good way to see the country on someone elses dime if you like driving and seeing the USA.

Mac you and I are about the same age. I’ve been retired from my day job 26 years. If you can’t find something meaningful to do after you retire you need help. You need to keep yourself active, if you stop and sit in the big boy chair you’re going to die. I’m on the board for a local homeless housing project, Campfire Boys & Girls club fundraiser board. I work for Habitat for Humanity when I have time. Now I’m thinking about volunteering at the VA hospital. The only reason I keep the car wash is for something to do, we only go there 3 times a week. We go on holiday a few times a year. I’m busier now than I was when I was working a full time job but it’s different because I can pick and choose what I’m going to do. I have a friend who drives box truck for a local foodbank 3 days a week picking up food from grocery stores, he loves it, he says it’s the best job he’s ever had because it rewarding help those in need. Get out into the community and volunteer yourself.

Pickleball.....

A friend put a pickleball paddle in my hand 3.5 years ago....and now I'm addicted. I'm 68, and play 3 hours a day 5+ days a week.

Great social and athletic game. Fastest growing sport in America......

You can become a traveling substitute worker for self-service/IBA car washes for owners who want to take a two week vacation far away with their family but do not have enough competent people to make the time away stress-free....
