Is it broken? What is your market like in regards to touchless vs friction? Are there tunnels nearby?

You might consider spending a few hundred bucks to get a car wash tech or Istobal distributor out to assess its condition.

I’m with OurTown - these machines, when dialed in properly and well maintained with good chemicals, are capable of a good tunnel quality wash. I would see what I could do to get it in proper running condition first.

What chemicals would you recommend for this automatic?

There are several good lines. If you find a rep who can get your machine going, they may have a brand that they sell. If you are not familiar with many of the major/ national brands, here are a few that seem to be favorable - not in any order:

CSI/Lustra
Diamond Shine
Quest
Chemquest
Simoniz
JBS

Certainly not all inclusive, but if you ended up with one of these in your Istobal, you’d probably be turning out a very good product. I’m sure other forum members will have more recommendations.

Istobal is in Bristol, Va on the TN/VA State line. If it's less than a four or five hour drive I would probably get someone from the factory to assess. I can't imagine a unit that new requiring much to get running. You can get a lot done to a unit for 5-10K. Unless there has been some sort of catastrophic event like a lightning strike that is your most economical option.

Istobal is updating models right now and as of a couple Months ago they had some flex five units they were selling at excellent prices.

If you decide to change out units update this thread and I'm sure folks here would likely discuss further.

Okay thank you for the recommendation I will have to check around
Don’t get Diamond. They want a contract so if you end up not liking their chemicals you are stuck with hem until the contract is up.
