We (wife and I) are getting ready to reopen after an extensive remodel with a new Dencar pay station and their big digital menu. With our sunglasses on both screens look black like they are turned off. We noticed this when we visited United Auto Wash while meeting Phill to look at the system. We thought the digital menu was auto dimming down at the time but that turned out not to be the case now that ours is powered up. I don't remember having the issue with the pay station while we were there but ours certainly has it. We have asked a few others if they can see them and so far we are the only ones that have the issue. My phone's screen looks fine with my sunglasses on until I turn on the camera and then it looks black to me and I always need to take them off to see what I'm taking a photo of. Other car wash pay stations and their digital menus look fine to us with our sunglasses on. I'm wondering if there is a polarized UV protective film on the screen we can remove. We have Costa brand sunglasses and I think they are made for fishing or being out on the water. Does anyone else have this issue?

It happens at places with anti glare screen. It's because your glasses are Polarized.

Just take your Sunglasses off.

Costa sunglasses are polarized. When you view a screen with an anti-glare film on it through polarized glasses, the combo of the two blocks the screen from showing.

It's science.

Same things happens to me with gas pump screens.

Either remove the sunglasses or the anti-glare screen film.

One is much easier. ;)

I know that it's polarized but rarely do I have this issue elsewhere. It's possible that I subconsciously take them off if I can't see something. If I tilt my head the screens look perfect. Because of this I now notice that if I look at my phone vertically it looks great but if I turn it landscape it goes completely black. Maybe there is no standard for the direction of the polarization for screens or sunglasses.

I looked at a TV with my sunglasses on and it looks fine until I tilt my head. Same with a MacBook. I'm kinda new to these sunglasses and previously always had $20 ones. The world looks different now.

I am looking at new paystations. Can you tell me what helped you decide to go with Dencar?

We thought they have the best club membership concept for a 24/7 wash. Most others relied solely on an app or license plate recognition. Dencar is a combination of both and has a good way of dealing with cheaters. They also seemed to have really good customer service and are responsive to common issues and new ideas.
