Labor…. Or lack there of!

Just needing to vent!

Fortunately, our SS businesses don’t need a lot of day labor, but definitely need daily attention as trash cans will be spilling over, and the property can look like a war zone after a couple of inconsiderate customers….

I can and will throw more $$ at the challenge, it is just frustrating….

Feeling a little better….

Any suggestions?

I removed the trash cans. I do have a dumpster on the edge of the property.
Edited to add, My wash stays cleaner and I do not regret removing them at all. My customer base is about as good as you will find. What works for me might not work for other locations and customer bases.

I took out trash cans when we had the covid scare figured I had a good excuse and never brought them back best thing I ever done .When some of the trash hogs ask me where's your trash cans ? I tell them they gone because of covid.

Good question & helpful feedback! Definitely something to consider... We have a very busy SS wash, with 5 trash cans and trash has become a MAJOR problem! From construction debris, bags of household trash, soiled diapers, moldy food, soiled cat litter, paint cans, etc. Here in California, I'm now responsible for recyling glass, aluminum & plastic bottles, clean cardboard. We also wash the cans every week. Hmmm, eliminating trash cans would reduce my labor! Without the trash cans, do you find people just leave their garbage where the cans were??

I have not eliminated my cans altogether. I have however reduced down to one trashcan that I put out by my vacuum island. I have four vacuums in two separate areas so one of the vacuum areas has no trashcan. It has definitely helped reduce the overall amount of garbage I collect. People do still abuse the trash cans. They come on the rainy days To dump trash and drive away. It seems like sometimes they save up the trash in their car for a month or two and then come and dump it all at the car wash. It's disappointing and it does make me want to eliminate the trash cans all together, but I'm just not quite there yet.

I'm the opposite, 3 bay attended ss with 3/ 30 gal cans per combo unit and 4 islands, 8 cans inside bays. It's the nature of the business in my region and I welcome as much mud as the customer can bring. I have no after dark trash dumping as I gate the business after dark. No access to anything and no trash has ever been left at the entrance.

Remove the trash cans. You'll go thru a little growing pain... but it's worth it.
If trash cans and dumpsters are visible and accessible...they will be abused.

I removed my trash cans 5 years ago because of the unbelievable amount of crap I was getting. Every 3 or 4 days I pick up a small amount of drink cans and a few pieces of paper. I also removed my dumpster and now people can't fill it up with their yard sale leftovers. Just put your garbage cans in the equipment room for a few weeks and see how it goes. It also saves me over $1000.00 a year for garbage pick up. Highly recommend !
