Just to follow up, 5 carwash owners met with the health dept director, water commissioner and the representative from Veolia water (they are the subcontractors that operate the waste water treatment facility).
The EPA has mandated this testing to monitor PFAS. We have to absorb the fees as required by city bylaws. Everyone more or less agreed that this is likely a waste of time/money because we don’t use PFAS in our chemicals BUT it is mandated by the EPA so there is no choice except to test. The city needs to do this to maintain their waste water license.
The samples are used to establish baseline standards. There are no maximum levels that would trigger a need to shut down a carwash or require on site waste water treatment AT THIS TIME.
You should all expect to have similar programs implemented in your municipalities that have waste water treatment plants
