I just started using Rain-x for the first time at my wash. I was putting some test vehicles through and had just the regular wash with rain-x applied at the end. No tri foam or sealer.

The cars were looking better than ever, in terms of gloss and shine, water repellency and drying. I got thinking with this product, there really is no need for tri foam or anything else. I know I could never remove it from my menu, as everyone now offers it, and every customer expects it, but, I truly think a good wash with the rain-x after is about the best results I have seen.

Am I alone in thinking this is truly an all-in-one product, with quality too? It seems to me as though it makes the other "shine and protect" services obsolete. I know the point of it is to add $2 or $3 dollars to an already existing top package, but it seems as though the other products coming before it are not necessary, when this is used. Obviously, we cannot discontinue their availability, as they build up the package, but I question their necessity when this is used.

Anyone else share this thought?

My thought is that tri foam is applied before the last friction piece so it may ad in some cleaning and polishing, whereas rain X is added after.

However, I don't care how great the product or service i I don't make $. So, as added package value all are good if they help sales and profits.

Briteauto,

I seem to remember that you needed to use a certain pH Trifoam for the RainX to bond properly. You may want to ask that question when you talk to your ecolabs rep.

Thank you, Bigleo, I was not aware of that. I will check into it.

We see the function and use behind triple foam where the mom with kids sees the color and entertainment of it. I wouldn't remove it due to the customers wanting a show. maybe you can switch to a conditioner instead of a wax to save on the bottom line and still give the show.

I have in the past used Rain-X in touch free IBA with no low ph products in the entire wash process and it still works and bonds great at 100:1 You may be able to get by with a weaker RAIN-X solution if your tricolor was low ph.

Several mfgs have come out with a line of polish products (trifoam, CCP, and premium protectant) that have similar base ingredients designed to work together. I haven't kept up with ecolab's product line, but I would think they have something too.

At the proper strength Rain-X is really good stuff. However around here, they are letting C stores put it in. Theses places are providing substandard washes, with weak solutions but licensed to advertise the brand. IMO, that dilutes the brand name of Rain-X, and has led me look for other alternatives.

That was what I was thinking of. My wash (probably like everyone else) cleans the cars fine - with or without tri-foam. I know the foam can add some extra shine, but I also think shine can be subjective. However, not in the case of Rain-x - it is hard to dispute that stuff really makes the paint, glass and trim shine - not to mention the water repelling properties it possesses are very apparent to the customer.

If you are looking for the foam to lower the pH, as cfcw said, the Rain-x doesn't really need that either. That is why it seems to me that with the use of Rain-x, the other products are perhaps not as necessary in terms of their actual performance. Of course they are useful for the show.

Glad to hear these good words I will be installing rain-x in the next week or so. Seems to have a good reputation so far.

I have installed Rain-X in many car washes and have never had to use a certain product to get it to bond with the paint. I have even installed it where some of the products are not even Ecolab products. Shhhhhhhh.... Works great as long as the car is getting clean before the Rain-X application.
