That's why religion and politics are a waste of time for arguing, here I only allow the posting of your opinion, it won't change anyone's thoughts that aren't in agreement with you, so an argument or debate is a waste.

For the last several Presidential elections it was not a question of who I preferred. Rather it became a question of who I disliked the least.

I think this is part of the problem with this country...and I admit that I played a part in it when I held my nose and voted for RINO McCain. Not again! Next time I stand on principle and vote for the candidate who believes intimately in following The Constitution.

IMO, anyone with an IQ above a rock, voted against GW rather than for BO, a number of my friends that voted for BO have said, "Yes, I heard him say all of those things, but I didn't think that he would actually do them".

We were warned right from the beginning by all the talking heads and by BO himself that he was a Marxist/socialist, but he got voted in anyway. Just goes to show how desperate people are for change...even if it is bad change. Now is the time for real change....like getting back to the Constitution, common sense, personal responsibility etc.

Mike, I'm afraid that the genie is out of the bottle, you are never going to see personal responsibility come back when "entitlement" has been so widely promoted by the government and accepted by the less bright, & those that will never write a check for the taxes needed to pay for those entitlements. Look at Greece, and the rest of Europe.

I dunno, people seem to finally be waking up. I hope it's not too late.

I'm reading a good book by a Mr. Schiff called "How Economies Grow And How They Crash." It's a simple-to-understand explanation of the falacy of Keynesian Economics that has brought us to the brink of economic disaster we find ourselves in today.

I've understood it for decades in my personal life - always putting back for a rainy day and emergency fund, only to have family members think they should be able to tap into my emergency fund when they need money for tranny repairs on their car. Invariably, those who need such a loan have a backyard full of 4-wheelers, motorcycles, and other toys that I can't afford.

When I was young and bulletproof I lived with a bunch of people like a commune and what I found was that they would indeed give you the shirt off their back. Problem was that they never had a shirt to give you and since you had a shirt, they demanded/expected you to give them yours.

For the last 40 years the government has done everything in its power to make the grasshopper and the ant fable, mute.

Look at New Orleans, they could have given everyone that lived there $1M and told them to leave, bulldozed it level and been billions ahead. Today the city is the murder capital of the world.

And the worst part is that we do them no favors when we hand them fish. Hide and watch the looting and semi-anarchy that takes place in inner-cities when politicians finally figure out that we can no longer afford to hand out "entitlements" like candy. When that welfare check stops coming, many of the dependent class will set out to destroy their own neighborhoods as though that makes some kind of a logical political point.

good gawd --- what the hell has happened to this country?!! That question is rhetorical. I know what has been happening to america. And it is as detestable as it is tragic. To that point and back to my "question" about the baron's question:

I have childhood memories that go back to the 1940's. Oh, how things have changed ... De-volved. From sea to shining sea, the air reeks with the stench of the foul fruit that has been dropping from the twisted tree of political correctness over the last couple decades. Thanks to all the unrelenting work of leftist politicians and their cohorts in lib media over these years, we've been herded to this point ... To this precipice:

now, americans who publicly and sincerely express a love of country and a belief in its being exceptional are considered too political ... political!!! And now, patriotic expressions are dangerous because they may offend members of a political party, "independents", or allah knows who?!!

again, "what the hell has happened to this country?!! "

to my mind, heart 'n gut, if ever there were a time for "all good men" to stand up and be counted, it is now --- here, there, wherever, whenever we have (or make) the opportunity to do so.

It's more than a bit ironic that this discussion (about the "dangers" of expressed patriotism) is happening right now --- memorial day weekend ---- a time when america honors those who faced horrific danger and made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve this great and truly exceptional country.

And, yes, i do believe it!

Btw, just in case somebody might be offended by that, allow me to make absolutely sure you're offended by saying --- screw you and the horse (or politically correct prius) you rode in on.
