Smart phone, dumb operator?

I broke down to peer pressure and got a droid phone. I figured there would be a lot of people here that have done the same. I find this phone a piece of human excrement. Yes it does a lot of things really neat, but the phone sucks. To make a speed dial call from my contacts list I have to push six buttons to do it. There are only seven digits in a local call. How is this speed dialing? The screen is unreadable in direct sunlight. You can not see anything on it. Well there just happens to be a lot of sunlight where I live in Florida. On a boat, at the beach, or just outside, the frigging thing is next to useless. And I swear that the geeks/goons who designed the operating software are the a++holes who everyone made fun of in high school, and this is their way of getting revenge. Even the official website for it does a really poor job of explaning how to use the thing. There, I feel better now.

Which Android phone did you get? If you bought a DROID from Verizon its a piece return it.

I have a Samsung Moment The phones great screen is easy to read even in sunlight. The screen is clear enough that I can see the contents without glasses! That's a big plus for me.

I'm ordering the new EVO from sprint for my wife that phone is great screen is easy to read the phone is very fast. I like the speech to text feature. So you can answer a text while driving by just speaking.

As to speed dial
Two options 1st in the dialer there is a section Favorites Add your favs there one touch and it will dial. Also the other option is look in the Market Place (in the application sections "market") search for speed dialer there's a lot of apps for this as well Manny of them are free.

I got mine last year I go through phones all the time. This is by far the best platform Ive used for a phone. I Have the ability with the phone and our card system to take car of customer problems right away. If I guy calls and complains I can start the washbay or Automatic remotely for him or issue a refund card to him remotely from the card dispenser.

Makes them happy and has saved me more than once from having to miss a movie or date with my wife

I love my Iphone 3G. Just ordered the new IPhone 4 yesterday. They all say they are as good as the Iphone, which tells me that Iphone must still be where it's at. Very easy to use and the screen looks great anywhere. Can't wait for my new one. I guess I sound like a commercial, but I'm a satisfied customer.

Go to the Customer Review and review them, this will make the Forum a more valuable place to visit. The new version had a set back with a crashed HD, without a current backup. But it will be bigger and better when finished.

iPhones are awesome Mac. I used a clients Droid while I was traveling with him and it didn't even compare to the iPhone.

I went iPhone and will never change. It is user friendly and way to useful. I use RealVNC to remote into my computers at the washes, and they recently made an app for the iPhone which I use to remote in from my iPhone! How awesome is that?

I can also see my cameras and also noticed ControlByWeb is integrating their products to be seen from the iPhone as well.

I think I'm in love....

I recently changed seats on my connecting flight while sitting on my original flight...way too cool! If I get flight delays etc, no ticket counter line for me, I'm on my iPhone picking my new flight.

I think it's actually an insult to call an iPhone a phone, they are unreal! As for the phone part, I can call you in two touches Mac. Like they say, once you go i ....

I feel like the guy who wakes up with a bad hangover, rolls over and sees the last girl left at the bar. I'm going to try and get my Verizon contract cancelled. Went back down to them yesterday because of many issues with the droid. Could not get it to do a simple edit of a contact. Turns out you have to push at just the right place to make it do that, and nowhere on the website/manual does it tell you that.

I like my iphone but I am going back to a Blackberry. I use Office 2007 with Business Contact Manager and since phone basically works on a Mac platform I cannot sync with my Business Contacts information.

As long as I'm switching phones, how do you blackberry users like your phones. Besides the above mentioned software item, any other reasons to suggest the berry over the iphone? One thing thta i noticed was a few of you said you switch phones a lot. Verizon, whom I've been using, always wants a 2 year contract. How do you get around that?

No question the iphone is a neat phone. The reason I don't like it as I mentioned is that it is not very Microsoft program friendly so it makes it difficult for me to use for business. My wife has one and loves it. I guess if it was just a personal use phone other than the business issue it would be fine. I do have a slight problem of texting on the screen with my fat, not so nimble fingers. It is also somewhat a pain to make corrections on mistyped words or to do scrolling due to the touch screen. I wouldn't consider a Blackberry for personal use because it is a little more complicated to use.

iPhone vs Blackberry, my thoughts:

You can't beat the apps on an iPhone, they are second to none.

If you do a lot of emails (like me) i prefer the Blackberry. I just can't type nearly as fast or as accurately on the iPhone as I can the BB. But I give up some functionality like remotely viewing my cameras.

Not sure if this is still the case, but I heard a lot of compleints on the "phone" portion of the earlier iPhones. call quality and things like that.

I would love to be able to view my camera remotrly with my iphone but I fall into the "dumb user" category. How difficult is it to set this up?

Depends on the system and the user. Carwashcameras.com sells a DVR now that encodes video for the iPhone, so you can simply hit your website and login. Then you just select the camera. Limited functionality, cannot view multiple cameras at once, cannot playback video, etc.. However, you can take a peek at each of your cameras while driving...errr...stopped at a stoplight!

I've given up on the Droid and am going back to return it. The phone just has tooo many issues, and after reading the reviews on Verizon's web site, it seems universal. I'm glad it's not just me. I've really grown to hate the jerks that work at the Verizon store. They try to make it look like I am the disfunctional one. You may see me on the evening news if it gets ugly. If you need a phone for work and are out in the field a lot do not get a droid.

Mac I feel your pain. I am in the market for a new phone but cannot decide which way to go. I have had Microsoft based phones which would meet my need to sync with their Business Contacts Manager which I depend on but from reading reviews on them they still have the same problem I had before - locking up and having to take the battery out to get them to work again.

The IPhone and others like it do not sync with BCM but offer some features I like - especially with the new IPhone where you can use it to link to the Internet without a WiFi connection. Right now I am not sure which way I will go. There are several new phones coming out in the next month so I guess I will hold off until then.

Mac, there are lots of "Droid" phones on the market. Droid is an operating system, not a brand of phone. I have a Motorola Devour phone which uses the Droid operating system. It took me a few weeks to get used to all the bells and whistles, but overall its a great phone. My guess would be that the simple feature phones in use today will disappear from the market in a few years.

Since I'm retired, I haven't gotten a smart phone yet. One good friend that is running a business with a partner, bought 4 iPhones and really loved them but couldn't get reception at his office or home, so returned them and went with Verizon. I don't know which one that he got there, but he/they love them. So you might do a little more research on the different smart phones that are at Verizon. Find the reviews, like we are starting here. There are unhappy iPhone users too.

only thing i hate about the iPhone is the service. i don't care how much the early termination fee is, when Verizon finally gets the iphone, im switching.
