Getting ready for roller change. Currently using steel, Hanna style low profile, 6wheel with SC 78 chain. Frames are in okay condition, but by the time all the components are bought to rebuild, the labor will cancel any savings.

Curious about the stainless and composite options that are out there. Anybody had superior performance with either of these that justifies the added expense? Anybody using Durethane covers as opposed to UHMW PE?

Good question. Considered sainless and then figured that's not the part that wears and even if the frame stayed good, as you said the cost to rebuild + it's a PITA (Tried it once) makes it a no go. My new AVW conveyor came with some sort of plastic roller frame. It was installed in April so too early to tell if they last longer.

Good point about the stainless, Earl. I changed a few plastic wheels this morning on the most problematic rollers and found some of the bolt heads to be chewed up. Definitely not worth rebuilding.

There was a composite model was introduced in Vegas a few years back but I didn't understand how it could withstand the abrasiveness it would be subject to. Hoping to hear from others who might have given it a try. On the other hand, silence will speak volumes as well.

Also, will probably get an anti-jam roller up conversation kit from Peco this fall. The current system has a lot of play in the wear spots that are undoubtedly contributing to the problem.

Earl and others, how about going to the customer review page and give some reviews on conveyors, so we can start building a database of knowledge. The new version is almost ready.
