How does the Arimitsu pump compare to cat pumps? Does the arimitsu pumps hold up as well as the cat pumps? Does the arimitsu pumps wash out like the cat pumps do? Do they need rebuilt as often?

I am going to replace some cat 310 pumps in my selfserve bays and the Arimitsu pumps pricing looks pretty good. For the ones who are using arimitsu pumps in their self serve bays, which pump are you using and what HP motor is driving them?

I am using the 516 on my SS bays with 5HP motors. The 311, 313, or the 516 is a direct drop-in for a 310 or 5CP Cat. If you have 3HP motors you probably should go with the 311 or 313. The 516 has approximately the capacity of a 530 Cat, but requires no mods to install in place of the 310 or 5CP. I have 17 SS bays and am down to just two Cats left. I love the fact that the Arimitsu is much quieter. I haven't had the washout issues like Cat is famous for. I think I replaced seals in one pump a couple of years ago, but I think that failure was due to a cavitation issue I had elsewhere in the system. I finally ran that issue down and have had no more issues. My oldest ones are a little over 7 years old. HTH

I agree with I.B.'s previous post. The Arimitsus are much quieter. I replaced six Cat pumps with Arimitsu a few years ago and have had zero problems. Greg, the Arimitsu rep is great to deal with.

Ditto on the Arimitsu pumps, IMO the best pump value in the market for many reasons. We even installed the large pump on the D&S Odyssey we bought in 2008.

It seems that most folks that buy these pumps are very happy, but they do not tell many others about it. CAT has been the only game in town for so long, and all the others have never compared well, that most have stopped looking or thinking about other pump options.

Now that the economy is the way it is many of us have had to re-evaluate many of our assumptions and maybe more folks will take a look at Arimitsu. Greg is the best one out there. Just be warned he is always happy you called.

Yeah, he made the mistake of giving me his cell phone #. I called him one Sunday night while he was partying with friends and watching football. He was more than happy to answer my questions and then even initiated a little bit of non-related chit-chat.

I think one reason that they are not getting more prevalent is that distributors want to sell what they have in stock. I was talking to someone once that had tried to order a 516 from a major supplier. They talked him out of it and into a 530 Cat that won't even fit in the same footprint.

I got his cell number also, called him one time on a Saturday when he was out bird hunting. Greg is a super nice guy. I’ve been procrastinating replacing my Cat 310 with the Arimitsu 516. My Cat 310’s are 28 years old and I think it’s about time to replace them. They have served me well but I think time to upgrade.

Bill,

I think part of the issue with customer reviews is the timing. When something new get's installed there's obviously high expectations but no solid performance history to rate or endorse. After the honeymoon, the experience tends to get lost in the fray.

I just replaced rollers. The purchase was smoothly and the company followed up with two phone calls - so far so good. Am I ready to rate? Probably in a few months after there's been time to assess performance.

MC, I understand, and will continue to remind. The end results will be good for everyone, so make yourself a note to submit a review in a few months.

Hi Sparkey,
To each question you have;
5hp is commonly used, 3hp is typically plenty for self serve applications if set at 1000 psi or less. Seen some old systems over the years w/2hp also, these in the 700 psi range.
ie; approx. 2.7 hp is required to drive the 313 or 516, 4 gpm @ 1000 psi.
Using the same pumps, 4 gpm @1200 psi consumes about 3.2 hp.

313 vs. 516; Both good. Operators and equipment builders taking the time to view the 516 enjoy its 4 discharge ports and the serviceability advantages compared to 313 style manifolds equipped with (6) valve plugs.

Thank you for the opportunity, you will be pleased.
