Hey everyone. Enjoy reading all the posts and comments.

Here is my deal: I run an exterior facility. One of the offers I added recently is a monthly pass. I have a dilemma regarding tracking, record keeping, accountability. Although I have a DRB tunnel watch, as a single location I did not go with the Site Watch for the extra 10 grand.

Presently my guys get shown the card, they print a receipt, and have customer initial. I'm here 80 pct of time, and my guys are honest, but I would like to be more certain that my system is not taken advantage of.

My thought was to try finding a barcode scanner that gets connected to a printer, maybe a pc too, but don't think I need it. The customer would pull around, we scan it, print receipt that would have barcode number on it, and then staple to DRB generated receipt. Therefore, it is separate from my DRB/Tunnel Watch System, but I get verification with printed barcode scanner receipt with DRB printer receipt.

Anyone know if a barcode scanner/printer combo exists like I want? I'm thinking for $400-$800 this might work. Does this make sense? Any other ideas?

I have thought of digital camera idea, but that seems to
cheap/unprofessional.

Thanks,

E

Stop kidding yourself that your guys are honest, if they really were you wouldn't be on here asking for advice. I would put in both the camera and the bar code system.

Geez, you mean people are dishonest? They may try to game the system?

When I asked about controls on the Grace for Vets the most popular answer is that if I'm worried about honesty I should replace the employee.

You can cut the guy some slack. He explained his situation and asked for advice.

I would check online, there are several companies that offer all prices, and styles of barcode scanners. Perhaps one offers where you can read the code and send it to a printer.

I paid a lot for my system and there are still ways to beat it. All operators struggle with keeping a tight grip on the coupons, discounts, and passes that get handled each day.

If the components are there your idea might actually work and be less expensive. If I see something I will contact you.

Good Luck,
Wood

what about tying in with the license plate # of the car, getting a camera for the plate height and reviewing them randomly in a day to compare plates w/receipts?

Spot checks can help encourage honesty.

What I find a little puzzling to these posts is that operators start offering new services or marketing programs without thinking it through completely. Then problems occur and service either needs to be removed or modified. I believe when this happens, the company incurs a fair bit of damage in perception that does the exact opposite of what was intended.

You really do have to look at these five ways to Sunday, discuss with other operators, prior to rolling anything new out.
