Got a customer that says my dryers damaged his roof. He said its the first time he used my automatic wash..he usually uses the tunnel just around the corner. I haven't seen the damage yet but my attendant says it looks more like there are three dents in the roof, not like the metal caved in from air pressure?
This guy is persistent that it was my dryers and claims he got a quote for $1100 to fix it....Im starting to think I'm being set up here I'm not sure but I will be taking a look at the damage soon.

When you look at it, you should instantly be able to tell if it even possible that your dryer did it. The odds are very remote.

Tell him to turn it over to his insurance company and if they think that it is your fault, your insurance company will take care of it. Otherwise, you will see him in court and your insurance company will pick up the tab, either way, you could care less.

Any hail storms in your area recently?

Tell him he needs to come back. You need to run the car thru the cycle and watch what happens. He can watch with you.

If he refuses deny the claim as a matter of policy. If he agrees and nothing happens, deny the claim.

If an insurance adjuster contacts you make the same offer to the adjuster.

Are you saying run the car threw and see if the damage gets worse? I did mention to him about running it there again and he was afraid it would get worse

He might also be afraid that it will prove that your dryer did not do the damage.

$1100 for roof damage? How could it get worse? You're likely being set up.

Bill gave good advice. I used iut with the guy who said my rails damaged his Hertz rental car hubcaps and haven't heard from him since.

Absolutley. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain since if any more damage happens it proves you were at fault and you have to pay to fix all the damage.

On the contrary, if nothing happens it is more likely than not that you did not cause any damage and are not liable.

If he takes you up on the offer I suggest you videotape the process.

I have been down this road. Run about 50 /50 with customers satisfied that we did not do the damage. The others cling to their mistaken belief that somehow for a single instant the wash malfunctioned on that their car only and on that spot only.

Thats the key arguement in my opinion. I explain to people that the car wash just can't pick out one car to damage when its this type of claim. Same with scratches. If I scratched your car, I'm probably going to scratch every car from the same malfunction.

We had a similar issue with a woman who claimed the foam brush scratched her paint. After the insurance agent inspected her car, he denied the claim. The last thing she said was "I'll see you in court." That was over a year ago.
