This video taken recently of a second offender dropping by in my 8th bay out of sight from the road. I kicked off a remote message to them. You can't hear the audio, but you can clearly see the man react to it. The message is polite but firm.

The message is polite and professional (non emotional). It says "Welcome to washname, that the wash bays are for external vehicle washing only, any other activity are prohibited". I then list some of the prohibited activities such as dumping and garbage and that they are considered theft of services. I also indicate that I have a 30 camera video system that records every sq/ft of the property 24/7.

So aside from having canned messages for most situations, I also have them incrementing in severity. So if the people continue their actions, I fire more stern messages.

You need to be very careful using this as you do not want to accuse a paying customer who is about to wash. This is why I did not fire the message on their first visit.

I have described in the past how I do this, but basically I have a PC (in this case my DVR) that is hooked up to an map and I have outdoor speakers. So I log into the PC using remote control software (Like VNC or PC Anywhere), unmute my speakers and double click on the sound file I want to play. Its easy and cheap to do. The used amp was 50 bucks, the outdoor speakers another $50, a bit of wiring and the software is free (VNC).

Big Leo,

Could you hear them? We have had a plain jane Talk a Phone 2 way intercom since 1982 that has helped us to stop someone from leaving a crashed into overhead door or from unnecessary coin box banging etc.

When Bill P visited last fall, he glanced at the computer based portion of our alarm system that showed the sensor alarm status indicators on the screen. Depending on the current settings --- time of day etc. ---an alarm status can play a wav file. It seems like with the unlimited data cell phones with remote desktop sound capabilities --- even ability to record some sound could be helpful.

Yeah, you can record a message on your smartphone or PC and move it over to play.

No I can't hear them, the system (if you want to call it that) is very basic and was cheap. It seems to do the job.

After a few years of having this, it has almost eliminated this kind of problem. Word gets around too...I told this storage guy that I owned the wash and he hold me..."Your the guy with the elaborated camera system and the coins that get vac'd up out of the bays!" I just smiled.

Not really relevant, but its a PC based system with a geovision card. Obviously not high def. Can buy this system just about anywhere that sells decent DVR stuff. I think I got it from Apex video in Texas.
