Like clockwork I have been receiving my faxes every night telling me my credit card totals, except for last night. Is there anything I can do without a hand held programmer? I can wait to see my bank deposits tomorrow, but I would rather get on top of it now if possible.

Thanks!

Have you tried you credit card? I am 99.9% sure you will need the hand held so you can post the sales that may be in there. You can try to power down the ACW and the Credit card system. I no hamilton can dial in but i dont no if they can batch it for you. You really should have a hand held.

Ok, so I did some more checking and it appears as though it is detecting card swipes, but as soon as the service is selected, the display reads "card unreadable" - "please use cash"...I have unplugged the 2 harnesses in the back of the credit card controller and powered down the ACW for 2+ minutes and am still getting the same results. I also checked the phone line at the ACW and it is crystal clear...any ideas?

I had mine lock up like that a couple of weeks ago for the first time. The handheld is needed to post the sales. Hamiltons people walked me thru it.
I think that is the only solution.

So the reader was still good, just locked up? What caused it to happen? Did Hamilton give you a root cause or a way to prevent it?

Everything worked perfectly after i batched it. I think i recall them saying it could have been a spike on phone line, and should put a spike protector on the line. Which i should still do. I think he asked if we had recent lightning in area.
A gfi circuit breaker or outlet gfi inside acw is also recommended for the 3am troublemakers,or lightning. I thought the handheld was too expensive for one use, but was sure handy when i needed it. They take it personally when their card is rejected.

John & others,

Anybody run an isolated earth ground to theirs like they use in hospitals type of orange isolated ground outlets? The installer for our 3 week old new ATM said that helps so that is what we did --- so far so good.

Anybody --- have both an ATM (convenience store or whatever) & the card swipes that you guys are describing & using? The reason why I am asking is because it seems like the journals & reports showing on screen or via its printer is more thorough on my ATM. The ATM says that it saves the last 10,000 entries. Also there is within seconds permanents posted on the processor's website every transaction with a variety of reports of those posts.

It even records why a card is rejected besides telling the customer on its 10 inch screen.

If you didn’t get a post or Fax last night you’ve got a posting error or the CRC computer is locked up. You’re going to need a Handheld programmer to get into the CRC computer and force the post to post

You also should have the ACW and the Credit card power supply on a GFI receptacle or a surge protector. You should also have a surge protector on the phone line. Something like this one http://datainterfaces.com/tsp-10-telephone-line-surge-protector.aspx

It sounds like you didn't get your fax because it couldn't post. Once it can't post at its scheduled time, it won't take cards anymore. You need a handheld to post manually, then it will go back into service. If you can call the ACW's line and it answers, the modem is ok.

Hamilton uses this surge suppressor on ethernet lines - it should also work on a phone line.

It will happen every time if your phone line is in use or it can't get a dial tone for any reason. A power failure wouldn't do it - it will just accumulate the transactions and post them the next day.

If you get a handheld and you're able to get it to post with no problems, you may never know what happened. If there's some issue with the modem, computer or software, Hamilton will be able to tell you.

Modem and phone jack were dead, busted, broke, not working, whatever...fixing it to the tune of $600...should have it back tomorrow.
