What material is best for bay signs

The signs in my SS bays are five years old and fading. I'm not sure what the material was but is somewhat brittle, about 1/4" thick. I want something that won't fade. I got a quote for new 2' X 3' instructional signs made of aluminum, $197 ea. YIKES!!

What have you found to hold up the best and what should I expect for price to copy my existing sign design?

A friend of mine uses a local printer for his signs - he's got some that are more than five years old and look as good as the day he put them up, and they were fairly cheap. I'll get you the info if you're interested.

I considered aluminum, but bought these 23" x 35" Lexan polycarbonate signs instead:

They're $20 bucks apiece and I ordered the Deluxe Menu Strips @ $3.38 ea. With 8 positions, total is about $47 per sign....The menu strips are about 4" x 20" roughly, so reading them is fairly easy. Plus, since my rotary dial decal is from Kleen Ritre, the color coding matches...Something to consider.

I have a local sign guy make them out of aluminum with my logo on them them. Then I buy strips for them from the catalog companies. They look dynamite.

I have a custom design to match the fronts of my meter boxes so those from KR will not be suitable, but thanks anyway.

I uploaded my design to www.buildasign.com They printed it on aluminum. It still looks good after 5 years and was only about $35 per sign. I've done several smaller signs since then with them and I now spray the sign using a can of clearcoat "paint" for added durability.

I buy all my signs from buildasign.com They seem to hold up well and are reasonably priced. Once you order a sign from them they will send you shipping specials almost weekly by email.

I have my signs made at a local sign shop. They are Lexan with a matte finish with the vinyl lettering on the back side and then the back side is spray painted to give the background color and seal water from getting to the backside. The matte finish on the lexan is nice because it does not show scratches like the regular smooth lexan does. The last order I had them make were out of smooth lexan and they do not look as nice.
I also had them radius the corners
Be sure to use 3M VHB tape to attach them to the walls.

We have our local sign guy use Kalite FRP, provided by us. He cuts it to size and it works well, keeping the costs down. Mark
