Revo license plate tag cameras

After a bad week of having a lose of $1200. Had vac truck dump mud in master pit and stop it up. Also had 2 Laurel vendors cut off of poles and they took the whole vendors. I finally decided to buy cameras for both of my washes. Purchased (2)-r16dvr3 systems and installed them. It came with 4 bullet and 4 dome cameras. Called Revo and their tag readers run $450. and $550 each. Looking for someone who purchased these camers and can tell me how good they work or not. I will need to buy 4. I did call a security camera company for car washes and they charge 700 each.

Called and was given part #rext650-1 @439.99, this looks like a bullet camera and revdptz22-2 @549.99, is a dome camera.
Told to go to http:www.securitall.com and insert part # in search.

I wouldn't use a bullet camera as a tag camera. You need a large lens to get enough light for nighttime capture. You need something like this in a weatherproof housing.

I got an email this week from Rugged cctv and they have ir660 long range hi res that it says will get plates and its 2 for $320 i was going to get a pair for that price and see how they work

Just ordered (2) ir660 cameras from rugged cctv. With power, cables and tax each camera cost 250.00. Their web ad says people use them the get tag numbers. I went ahead and purchased 2 for one wash. I will keep everyone posted as to these cameras really catching the plate number. The nice lady said that I will have a 14 day window for return. This company is also carwashcameras.com too as the phone number is the same. They do have a tagshot 111 -27 at 700.00 each plus power,cables, and tax.

Not sure how this would affect video using ambient light. It reflects the Flash used by ticket cameras. With no flash the light may or may not be reflecting off the plate depending on the angle. Guess how I know

Good news. Installed 4 ir-660 tag reading cameras and this morning I called the police and reported bay hose and gun gone. In viedo shows white man washing in bay driving a white box truck with a cab. Finishes and drives forward alittle and stops. Then pulls further out and you see he pulled hose from boom. Gets out and goes to hose laying on ground and picks it up. Puts it inside box and heads for exit. Tag camera shows printed address on back of box and you also have a picture of tag. Police officer could read the tag better than I could, as age was on his side. Even if nothing happens with theif, I am just so pleased with these cameras. I think the price of $179.00 each is the best value I have spent. I now do not have to guess what happened and who did it.

WW, were the ir-660s mounted as in bay camera or used for a driveway? How high were the cameras mounted? I see their website states tags can be read up to 30 feet away.

Thanks for the feedback you have provided thus far. I'm thinking of getting one for my entry driveway so I can ID all incoming traffic.

The cameras were mounted facing the drives. They are about 9-10feet from ground on the bay post. I parked my wifes car at on the drives and aimed the cameras and set the zoom and focus. You will need a power supply and the cable. They sell them at lengths you need.

The IR-660 cameras had some modifications done to them in the last couple months. I have some older ones that the plates wash out to white at night but get good tag shots in the day time. I recently purchased the newer style IR-660 and now I am able to get a clear tag shot at night also. The updates they done seem to have done the trick.

How far away can you pick up tags at that height? I'm looking at 30 to 40 feet away.

I mounted them about 35' from street. I do not know how far away they will work. I figured the closer the better. Their is a major problem that I just found out about. IF THE POLICE DON'T CARE, YOU WILL NOT GET ANY HELP. It's been 4 days and no response at all. It now feels like if you do not have them on ground at gun point, the police won't do anything. They might do something if someone gets shot and dies. Oh well.

Is there a local TV station that has one of those investigative reporters? This is something they like to use since you have done all the work for them. If anything it will at least show locals that you have this capability and may cause them to think twice before doing anything at your wash.

My experience with the police is very similar. I had my company trucks vandalize during a snow storm. There were footprints in the snow leading from my trucks to a nearby house. When the police came they said that there was no probable cause to check the house out.

But when the cops need your video, they will be there. Funny how that works. Two times now the local police have requested my video footage to review vehicle traffic passing by my wash in an attempt to establish a timeline and getaway path resulting from two gang homicides.

I know many of our problems are probably trivial to what they have to deal with, but a crime is a crime, and should be acted upon, especially if you have evidence. There should be no excuse when thy can simply run a plate. I still think having tag evidence is very very useful. Pretty hard for the cops to make an excuse if you have a plate number. I also have small fisheye cameras in both of my cash machines, very useful to get face video.

It makes sense that a homicide investigation takes priority over $30 worth of stolen hose. For what it's worth, the one time the local police asked for video was when a purse-snatching happened on our lot. A 16-year-old girl tried to stop him by grabbing the purse and was pulled to the ground and sprained her wrist - when the guy's defense attorney saw the video they entered a plea of guilty and he's now serving 26 years in prison.

Some of you may remember the car wash video in Florida that helped catch the creep that kidnapped and killed a 10 year old girl. Without it he probably would have gotten away with it. It is a two way street though. One would think it would not be too much trouble to run a license plate and do some follow up.

One interesting note about my footprints in the snow scenario. Two years or three later they raided that same house and found thousands of dollars of stolen merchandise and drugs. Just think how many thefts might have been prevented had they taken the time to investigate when they had clear evidence of a crime.
