Good Morning All,

Well with a typical sunny weekend, the problems always make themselves apparent on those days...the injector for my first pre-soak pass is leaking from what appears to be between the stainless portion and the plastic piece. Is this a pretty common occurrence with these types of injectors? The Razor doesn't have a huge amount of washes on it, but this is all still pretty new territory for me.

Thanks!

Are you talking about a plastic push lock connection, a plastic tip or what?

I'm going to guess you're talking about a Hydra-flex injector. I just had one do the exact samething last week. It was leaking on the exit side between the plastic and the stainless, however, its impossible to see anything wrong with it. I'm hoping this isn't an indication of their longevity! I switched over from the General injectors because the barb portion with its spring, ball and o-ring always seemed to give me problems after a while.

hydraflex injectors

I had 2 do the same thing gobucks did. They were dual port and they were on
Hi Ph pre soaks. I thought i would give them a try due to the advertised longevity. Didn't last 8 months. Called chem flex for a torque spec in case of an over-tightening issue that might be separating the core from the housing and none was available. They also said at the time there were no other reports of this problem. Switched back to stainless and rebuild/replace as needed. Might be a nice piece if the can get that ironed out.

Yes we’ve seen this happen many times. You should keep a couple of injrctors on hand just in case you’ll need one in a hurry, like on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Ours last about 7 to 8 months. We replace them every 6 month to keep the Lasers running at their peak.

We have had much better luck with the Chem-Flex injectors than the older GPI injectors. However, they still only seem to last 8 months or so at most sites. Some site do better than others (Some sites get a year or more). My customers with very busy sites typically change the two presoak injectors and solenoids every 6 months as a precautionary maintenance.

The issues you have had with leaking and stainless deterioration are very typical for us as well.

The good news is that injectors are easy to change. You definitely should keep two 086 injectors and two Danfoss solenoids on hand at all times.

I've been moving toward these on all our machines and have had good luck with them over the stainless. I've tried to rebuild them all, but just put new on and save yourself the time and headache. Like Randy said, you need to keep a few complete rebuild kits from the foot valve to the injector. The way it mixes air, water, and chemical...sometimes starting completely fresh even with new spray nozzles is needed to make that pretty coverage.

Sorry for the late response, this nice weather in the midwest has kept us hopping (Thank God). This is the injector that went bad and was subsequently replaced:

Once I was able to replace it, the pre-soak had actually eaten through the stainless threaded portion of the injector. Has anyone else seen that before?

The real question here is why are you using a .86 injector for presoak? remember the larger the injector the more water that passes through making it more diluted than necessary. The only person that would want you to run a .086 injector would be a chemical salesman, try reducing your injector down to a .70 and you can double or triple your titration. Also the chemflex injectors are not all that they are cracked up to be, I go through one every 2-3 months on high presoak and dont even bother to try using them on low preasoak.

What injectors do you use?

Now this is all for a 4000/ww high velocity. I use the regular stainless GP for tri foam, I use a special GP stainless with kynar barb and o rings for cc/wax under high pressure. I use a chemflex tri barb for hi presoak, and I use a G5 kynar injector with a custom machined uhmw orfice for low presoak. The G5 injector requires 2 end blocks that bolt together clamping the injector between them, anyone that has a G5 knows what Im talking about maybe? but with my end blocks which are made of UHMW I can use this style of injector on any machine, because now it has 3/8 thread on both ends.
