Replacing Drop Shelf Vending.

Most people here have said the same thing I've been told in person, that they sell two or three times as much with a large glass-front vendor than a few drop-shelf ones. One guy I know spent $20,000 on elaborate vending islands with electronic drop-shelf machines at a wash he built and put in one 51-column vendor at another - he said he does twice the sales from the one vendor and it takes him half the time to stock.

It may vary by location.
How much do you sell per month? If you sell $500 gross . $250 net, and double the sales (maybe) your investment will have paid for itself in less thanb 2 years.
You do the math vis a vis your situation.

I have two locations. One location does twice the wash volume of the other one but the vacuums and vending are in opposite sides of the wash. I am thinking of getting a vending machine and putting it on another island in the middle of the vacs. The slower location has drop shelf vending in the middle of the vacs and does better. Thanks for the input!!

Placement consideration
From experience ... since we put our bill acceptors in the bays we have fewer people going to a "bills to dollar coins" changemaker next to our 52+ glass front selection MegaVendor. It does have a bearing on the number of impulse items & even towels sold. Jim Holve's SureVend tends to be more vandal proof.

go to craigslist... type in "snack vending" and watch for a good deal. I've been able to find several 30+ selection vendors for under $500 in the past few years. Just be patient and jump on the good deal when it appears. Once you get it, slap on a coat of paint, upgrade bill acceptors if need be... and if you need high security have a metal fab shop build something around it at you wash.
It might be a little more work, but you'll save a lot of dough and shorten your payback.

I have toyed with this idea as well since I would like to get something in place inside of my dog wash for vending. I am not concerned about accepting credit cards, but machine reliability is a big thing for me...decisions, decisions...

One of the advantages to having gone with a PLC driven - touchscreen dog wash was the ability to customize our own 4 selection reliable electronic drop shelf vending ... with some key help from Chip at Laurel Vending.
Laurel's electronic drop shelf style is a major improvement over the old style "all mechanical" in my opinion. They are more vandal resistant than the ones with the glass front it seems. I personally don't believe that "credit card only" or "tokens only" will solve all vandalism issues.
