I'm looking for a source for purchasing letters for a sign to mount on the side of our building. These letters need to be "about" 2 feet tall and white in color. It will say "Car Wash" or some such lettering. Ideas?

Copperglobe,

On the home page of our website www.kingkoin.com there is CAR WASH lettering. It was homemade by jigsawing the letters out of 3/4" thick white permaboard 4"x8" sheets. The plastic sheets were supposedly made out of recycled plastic diapers & is completely white through & through. I am not sure where you can buy them or cost anymore. A local art - copy shop at $25 cost blew up the lettering on wide paper so it was the right size for tracing on the plastic sheet before we started jigsawing. For mounting on the steel mansart we used some stainless threaded inserts available at our local Ace Hardware with stainless threaded rod & stainless locknuts etc. The sign lettering was done about 10 years ago & there are no appearance or durability issues. It was one of the better things we have done considering the traffic at the across the street strip mall.

I just installed some plastic letters on my building. They are yellow but I'm sure they are available in white. I bought them at Signs Now. Cost for 7 letters
(CAR WASH) was $356. Easily mounted to my metal exterior with sheet metal screws.

I'd upload a photo from my iphone if I knew how. Or if you want to PM me I'll email a photo to you. They are plain block plastic letters, 2 feet tall and about a foot wide.

OK, in my experience recycled stuff comes from used stuff.

Somehow I can't fathom saving and then putting used diapers thru a recycling process.

I would recommend letters cut out of dense foam. You can get them painted or not, but you will need them painted as the UV damage on the raw foam, kills them too quickly. With a good paint job, they last almost forever.
