I had a customer recommend adding a hot water rinse function to my selfserve bay as a premium option for a slightly higher price. I don't use hot water for anything in the selfserve bays but it got me wondering if this would sell. Has anyone tried selling hot water rinse for a higher price? I live in a cold climate and lots of people use the wash to deice their car.

If you have lots of customers asking for it, it probably will get some use. If I made every change suggested by a customer, we'd go broke.

save your hot water use for foam brush, wax and wash. rinse with cold.

hot rinse accomplishes zip, imo.

however, when customers feel warmth from the wand handle or fb handle, they feel more value, i think. and hot water w/soap and fb cleans better.

i just like saying 'hotwax' so i have wax on hot too.

I would think they would ask/benefit more from a hot water wash. We do temper our rinse water when the ambient temp goes below 20. I personally get frustrated when the rinse ad soap are freezing on the surface. Also curious whose soap is providing good cold water bite?

I tell my customers, in this weather, to rinse with the wax as it comes with hot water.

Exactly.

They just want to come to the wash and RINSE only.

If they wash first, then use rinse after all the other functions and the water still freezes, then it is ultimately too cold to wash depending on a multitude of factors wind, temp, sun, etc. If the rinse water was hot, the water would still freeze on the vehicle once they left the car wash.

Most people that want hot rinse only want to melt the snow and ice chunks off their vehicles, not really wash. Once they use the wash as a "snow broom", they end up leaving a slippery mess in the bay for the next customer.

That's not what I meant at all, but that's a very valid point. The person who wanted hot water rinse probably just wants to melt snow and ice off his car which will also increase the load on the floor heat to melt it.

That is exactly why I rinse with cold water. The only thing you left out is that you now have to pay for the floor heat to melt all that snow and ice.

And then you have those who pull in first thing after a 6-8" snow and use your FB to sweep all the snow off their car! All without putting in the first quarter!

My have my ss wash set up so that a relay changes the rinse from cold to hot water rinse. The relay coil is wired in with the weep solenoid. When it it cold enough to weep, it is cold enough to hot water rinse. Did this a while back. Very good response from customers. Multiple customers stopped me to say thanks.

I guess I adjust/add features to my wash that I appreciate when I use my own wash. If the wash does things that i don't like or don't work well, then surely customers probably wont like it either.
