Well I must say that I've been pleasantry surprised by the quality of responses to some of my inquiries, so I thought I would try this one. My wife and I are looking at doing a refinance on our home and Quicken advertises some nice info. It's nice however until you start filling out the forms and reading all the fine print. So a two question request: 1. Anyone done a loan with Quicken, and what are your feelings. 2. Any suggestions on a local human to do this with?

Just go through your local bank/credit union... I went with the ones that I have all my business loans through. It was easier (they had all of my financial info anyway)... but when I did my refi, I just went through two brokers and went with the one who had the lower fees.

If my memory serves me correctly I filled out their application online a little over a year ago and started receiving numerous calls from all kinds of banks and mortgage brokers. I think they are a broker or lead service for mortgage companies. That doesn't mean that they might not be OK. I learned early in the process that if you only had a few years left on your mortgage, it didn't pay to refinance. So I'm still at 5.25%

I'm working with Quicken now after my bank more or less let me down. So far I'm pleased, but I'm not very far along in the process.

Just an update. I started this in mid Dec of 2012. It's now almost three months later and we still have not completed this freaking thing. One of the sticking points is that the appraiser said our house is a two bedroom house, even though it's been listed on the tax rolls for almost 30 years as a three bedroom house. Because we use one bedroom as a sort of den, they changed the description. The people at Quicken seem brain dead. Not a confidence builder. It may take 2 to 3 more weeks they are saying.

If you, your spouse or your parents served in the military, you can use USAA services. They do every thing including mortgages. I beat up my kids to tell them to use them. My daugther her husband finally called. In 40 minutes over the phone they, changed insurance on both cars, home owners, and refinanced --saved them a ton. I have used them for 48 years--there is no better company. Told an old marine friend who thought it was only for officers--it is not--it is for military and their immediate family. He got on the phone and changed every thing in less than an hour. My step son is buying a house--he got on the phone and is now approved for mortgage on on house they are considering.

Their secret is no agents, run by x military committed to their customers, and cliental as a group are much lower risk than general public. One main office in san antonio --customer service is fantastic.

My wife is a realtor. She has nothing good to say about Quicken Loans. When I wanted to use them to refi, she vetoed it. She says they NEVER close on time, over promise and under deliver. She steers all clients away from them if possible.

Ted and others, thanks for the referrals. We're switching. Talked to USAA and the comfort level went up. Who would have thought that on a simple car wash web site that I found a solution to my mortgae issue?

I'm thinking that Quicken is just a broker, that sells your paper to someone else. Find the source, so you avoid the middle dip $hits.
