What does it mean when I adjust the optic's (using dip switches 8 then 1), and get a return code of "3".

I cleaned the unit, adjusted, got a 3....cleaned it again, and got a 1.....and decided to leave it well enough alone.

What does it mean when the 3 is returned as a code? Just dirty...or something worse?

A “3” on Optic calibration means that the validator is to dirty to get a good calibration of the optic sensors or the optic sensors are too far out of calibration to do a field calibration. If you keep getting a “3” on the optic calibration it might be time to send it in for repair. When you do the “8” - “1” optic calibration you should always use a clean piece of plain White copy paper. When do the optic calibration you should also do the “6”- “1” side scan calibration.

Thanks Randy for the quick reply.

The moderator will probably flame me for straying off topic...But...I just got back from the wash and my ACW IV says, "Payment options, Use Cards or Bills".

I've never seen that one. I unplugged the hopper...and I got the expected "Use exact change". I plugged the hopper back in, and the prompts went back to normal.

I don't think the problem was hopper related was it? It seems like the controller can't see the Quarter acceptor or Token acceptor?

Wiring harness issue?

NEVER! Unplug or plug in any components inside the ACW or Bill Changer. Disastrous results might be the end result, always turn off the power when unplugging any of the components, validator, Hopper, Stacker and Controller. When you get an error push the Yellow Action button on the controller and you should see the error on the display, push the Yellow Action button again and it should say “Error Acknowledged”, and you should be back in business. It sounds like a Hopper issue, Payout Switch or a Motor Brake issue.

Unless you need it for the Tokenotes, IMO the best way to clear a code on an XE validator is to replace it with a Mars.

I typically get this error when the controller detects certain errors with the Hamilton validator, typically it is displayed when a bill gets jammed and the machine can no longer accept bills
