Love the HCA...gets better every year. I like the round table discussions too. Lots of info shared and I can say I learn somethingn every year. Thanks for mentioning this event!I am glad a few others feel the same, I thought i was the only negative soul that couldn't stand Chicago. With my 60 some days below zero this winter, I thought I might be just getting a bad attitude..OK I do have a slightly bad attitude. But, I would love to go to San Antonio , Orlando, or Vegas. It also looks like it will be at the busiest time for washing cars, if spring gets here. We all then need to go and support our regional shows. For me it is the Heartland show in Des Moines Iowa at the end of April.
I was part of a session about using social media and the web to get your company out there.... scary I know! How to get the word out on a new operation quickly without spending too much.
The ICA has talked about regionals for a long time. Probably more as a source of additional income rather than helping the car wash industry. As someone else pointed out - most of the companies that exhibit at the ICA Show are also at the regionals association shows. Usually a much better bang for your buck at a regional than at the ICA Show.
Are QR tags still being used? They seemed like a really cool idea (local guy had a huge one on the back of his landscape truck) but didn't seem to catch on. I can't even use them because I have an "old fashion" cell phone that won't die/can't kill it.I was part of a session about using social media and the web to get your company out there.... scary I know!
I was actually surprised how many car washes used twitter and facebook..... but the session probably just drew those people.
You know I'm legit because I have a website! cwwebsite.com
So lets talk! JK I do have some ideas I was thinking up for a client though.... what about qr tags?

Back on topic: The fact that the ICA has not chimed in on this discussion is further proof that they are not in tune with the Auto Care Forum members . One could argue that this forum has a greater impact on the industry than any association. Bill P was often treated like the red headed step child by the ICA.
I would think that ICA would have a person that monitors their web presence. How is it that if you whisper "Ginsan" in the darkest corner of this forum suddenly Dan K pops up with a response? (Kris Oliver At PDQ is also pretty good at being involved here) We have a 3 page post about the ICA, yet all I hear is crickets!
I think I just talked myself into attending the Northeast Regional Convention this year. RIP ICA.
Well it should be! I don't see it in advertising either (buildings or signs)? I was also thinking about the b/w ms tag. I wanted something I could cut with my vinyl printer. It should help people get to super long web addresses everyone seems to have. Are QR tags still being used?
