Just had a brand new 10 hp WEG motor erupt in flames. No kidding, it looked like one of those dragsters. This is the third one in a short period of time that's done this. The other two lasted a little longer in time, but were not used much before they failed. Little too odd, just thought I'd give you a heads up if you have a choice in motors. This last one was real fun. It's on a blower, so it had to be raised 10 ft and all connected before flaming out. Ah, the joys of owning a service company.

Are you sure the motor was tapped correctly for the available voltage? I'd be interested to hear what a motor shop said after an evaluation.

Not sure of the WEG Designation but had a new install blow 2 because the new motors are wired differently that the old ones and the electrician had done lots of blower installs. This was about 2 years ago.

WEG is the manufacturer listed on the data plate. And yes, all three were wired correctly.

Interesting - any chance they mis labeled a single phase with a 3 phase plate? I would think that'd be noticed during wiring, but thought I'd throw it out there. As long as frame type and other specs match, you can interchange between weg, baldor, Lincoln, etc. pick your poison.
