JE Adams motors going out

Have a continuing problem with replacing motors in our JE Adams vacs. Have tried different brands but still the same result. Any ideas?

I've been using the Domel 492 vac motor. The brushes have been lasting three times longer than the cheapo GS that Kleen-Rite used to sell. I haven't had one fail yet; some are as much as 8 years old which means the original (Lamb) motor only lasted three.

The 492 is a bit taller than the standard motors, but it will fit in most vacs as long as they're changed in pairs. If height is critical, they have another model that's an exact fit.

Mostly using Domel 492. They go out before I have a chance to change brushes. Sometimes 4-5 times a year.

Are you seeing a lot of dust getting past the filters?

I'm assuming with your user title and where you put this thread that these vacs are in an express exterior - do they run all day long?

If there is, the dust might be making the motors wear out prematurely.

No apparent dust problems, and vacs are free and on a three minute timer.

Pre mature failure issues and possible solutions:

1. Filter Bag issues. Holes let debris pass thru. BAd Bag or seal at Bag. May not notice if secondary screen is directly below motor opening. If screen is clogged air flow is impeded and motors overheat.

2. People often have perfect flush nozzle on surface vacuming impeding air flow causing overheating. Some will drill a 1/4" hole in the cuff at the vac or somewhere else for some bypass action.

3. Are these single motor vacs? Have a friend who installs and services vacs and has seen lots of failures in some of these lately at an EE. His thought was that the dome / motor enclosure did not allow for enough circulation / cooling and lead to overheating. Don't know if he came up with a simple fix.

It looks like the Domel motors have an average life span of about 800 hours. So that should work out to about 16,000 cycles at 3 minutes each. If each customer uses 2 cycles the motor should be able to service 8000 customers. Have you ever checked to see how many cycles or hours used before they fail?

I usually suspect the electrical supply when I see a lot of motor issues. It can be a pain to sometimes check all of the connections from the panel to the vac. Also from having torn out a lot of equipment here in Florida, many times the underground pvc fills with water.
