Adding bill acceptors to JC combo vacs

I spoke to Jim Coleman today about adding bill acceptors to my combo vacs and the price to do so seemed insane! They wanted $1312 for the frag vacs and $1785 for the shampoo vacs due to having to use a different timer with a ribbon cable so that it would fit. I like the idea of being able to accept bills, but the price is crazy and I can't see the payback on something that high. Are there any other options to adding them for less?

If there's room in the cabinet, you could cut a hole in the door and mount a bill acceptor inside and just wire it right in with the coin acceptor.

I just checked and it turns out that 4 of my vacs have the newer doors that have a spot I can punch out for the bill acceptor and also the mounting screws welded in. Anyone know what model Mars acceptor fits there?

I have a bunch of coleman vacs and would love to see a wiring diagram to do this upgrade. The Coleman upgrade includes thicker SS Doors also. I checked into this when I refurbished a bunch of them last year.

Yhe locking system is also different. Medeco Plugs coverng bolts and there was a seperate security bar with lock housing. (Bought mine that way.) At the time the upgrade was about $1000

It depends on the voltage you want to use. 110 volt use a AE2411U3. I'd use a 24 volt AE2412U3

Now I suppose your going to want to know how to wire it up.

LOL. Of course now I need to know how to wire it up:) I think I have a couple of the 2412 models as backups for my bays, so I just need to know the wiring. JC said that for the shampoo vacs I would need to use the timer that has a ribbon leading to the display screen, but I don't see why. Do I need to do that?

I got the wiring diagram from JC, but apparently I don't have any harnesses. I thought I did. Anyhow, where is the best place to get some harnesses? Thanks.

What harness do you need?

This is pin out for the 24 volt Mars validator

Mars validator 24 volt timer wiring

Pin #5 is 24 volts Hot or Black wire on the plug – Connects to 24 Volt Hot
Pin #6 is 24 volts Neutral White wire on plug - Connects to Common
Pin #7 is Credit Relay (N.O) Orange wire on plug – Connects to Coin Pulse or Coin Signal
Pin #8 is Credit Relay (Comm) Brown wire on plug – Common Connects to coin Common or common

The MEI #250075007 harness is the standard harness that comes with all Mars/MEI 24 volt AE pulse validators, MDB validators use a different harness. You can use a Mars/MEI VN2512 in place of the AE2412 by using Enable jumper MEI #250074011 along with the MEI #250075007 harness. This makes the VN validator think that it’s being used in a Gaming application. The VN2512 validators are a less expensive validator and there are more of them around.

Thanks for the tip Randy. I will keep that in mind for next time. This time I was able to buy a bundle of 5 AE2412's for $500 and the seller is including harnesses.

You want to be careful when buying used Mars/MEI AE2412 & VN2512 validators a lot of them are being dumped that cannot be upgraded to accept the new $5 bill. You want to make sure the validator as the “Flash Port” logo on the side and then it’s still not a 100% guarantee that it will accept the new $5 bill, some people have been swapping out the guts of a new validator with an old validator.

Thanks for the advice. I did buy the models that are flash capable and are already updated for the newer $5 bills. I have purchased from this seller before with issues, so hopefully this time is the same.

For those of you that already have bill acceptors on the vacs, is there any concern for water damage from heavy rain? Any precautions I should take?

You won't have a problem from rain. I've had zero problems with the Mars in the auto cashier which has no kind of shield on it at all, and it's not even an upstacker.
