Purchased 2 combo vac/carpet, and 3 scent/vacs on e-bay last December. Changed decals and repair everything that was not working on them. Installed machines last week and ran into this problem yesterday. Customer got mad when vac came on. 2 machines had the 1034r timers. With these timers you are suposed to make your selection and then insert coins. It plainly says this on the timer. Well everyone knows that customers don't read. They insert money and this starts the vac but they wanted scent instead. Is their any way to program the 1034 timers to take money and make the customer push what they want to use and not start machine with out making selection. I did not get manuals with machines. Thanks for any help.

If it were mine to do, I'd work on a way to allow the customer to switch to whatever function they want. Fragramatics vacuums use an IDX timer that can be switched between vac and fragrance or vac and shampoo with different start-up costs and different run times for any item. Replacement should be fairly simple.

You should be able to figure this out. Apparently, the way the switch is positioned determines how much time is put on the timer for the quarter. One way would be to add a cheap PLC, that had the timer in it, and it just counted the quarters, then if the switch was one way it ran X sec. and if the other way, a different X time. That way the customer could switch back and forth. But maybe a LARGER STOP sign, would warn the non-reading customer. Sometimes the fix is too much trouble or expense, so you just have to wait until the customer learns the trick. I doubt if the manual would have enough tech. info to fix it.

In the programming software just choose "switch" instead of non-switch. This will solve your problem.
