I've always been a Hamilton guy, but I may be aquiring a wash that has a Wash Select II which I have no experience with. What tricks and tips can you Unitec experts give me? Someone told me to upgrade to a double sided reader and different printer...I think they said it was called a Hecon? So far all I know is it has dial up CC clearing, a slugbuster on the door and the bill acceptor was black. I'll eventually need a new coin cup and face decal as well. Any part numbers and best sources for parts would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I have 3 and they are workhorses! I do recommend upgrading the double side CC readers. You will also most likely have to upgrade your control board by sending it back to unitec for an upgrade. It really depends on your make and model. In addition to, you may have to order one of their sierra site servers for high speed internet processing. In which you will have to open a CC processing account with mercury. If your printer is working I wouldn't replace it bc the Hecons are very $$$$ and you may have to shift your control board to the rear of the unit to fit the new printer. I don't think its worth the trouble. Most likely it is a Coinco Magpro if not its a mercury MEI. Make sure all bills get accepted but you don't have to change it unless it is not functioning. If you do get a new bill acceptor go with Mars aka MEI. You have to get your part numbers through unitec because it all depends what unit you have and what software you are currently using. They will make you order parts through a distributor. You can also contact the guys at Etowah Valley for some replacement parts.

I used a wire brush on my coin cup then primed and painted it. Looks brand new.

Thanks Wiki. As I don't have access to the Wash Selects yet, where is the best place to get the make/model and software info from to see where I am at? Is it on a sticker, a chip, or is there some kind of printout I can get that has the info? Regarding the dual sided reader, I can see the benefit to it but at what cost? I would want a spare reader on-site anyway, so if I have to order one I may as well get the dual-sided one. However, you're saying they are not interchangeable? If I get the board upgraded for the dual sided, is the single sided no longer usable? Upgrading boards etc sounds expensive...everything with the Unitecs sound expensive and complicated compared to my Hamiltons. As for the Sierra controller...I don't have a problem with the dial up, at least I don't think I will.

The model number is located on the inside of the WS2 and there is a chip on the control board which tells you what software you are currently running. With that information is a great start to contact Unitec and find out what your options are. As far as upgrading you may or may not need everything that I have mentioned. You will not know until you contact Unitec with the pertinent information of your WS2 to find out how much certain items cost. Its not that complicated at all it is just a new system in which you need to get familiar with. WS2s have been out for a long time and are reliable. They also have excellent tech support. I would call them and find out what information they need to help you and go from there.

By the way after installing the dual sided swipers, I still had someone insert their card upside down. The customer notified me that my dual sided CC reader was malfunctioning. I advised him that it reads the card better when the card isn't upside down. LOL!

That doesn't surprise me...if there is a way to mess something up, our customers will find it.

Two more things...I have a site with two Hamilton ACWs and Etowah Valley quickpay bay cc acceptors all sharing one phone line without a problem. Can you tell me if I'll be good with one phone line for two Wash Selects?

Lastly, are the dial-up modem boards universal for the Wash Selects or do they depend on the model # and software version as well? I may have a line on two used working modems I'd like to buy for cheap spares.

Thanks for all the help, its really appreciated!

I believe you will be Ok with 1 phone line but if you have two transactions at the same time the one will have to wait for the other to complete the transaction before the other can be processed. At my site each WS2 had its own modem and phone line.

I believe they are universal you will just have to set them up with the proper credit card processor through the ones listed by Unitec that support dial up credit card transactions. I would check and verify with Unitec about compatibility. I do have a couple modems that I no longer use if you would like to purchase them let me know.

I'm glad that I can help!

The toughest paint I've found is Rustoleum appliance epoxy, but it doesn't come in many colors.

We have 2 WS11 units in operation. I have also rehabbed and sold a couple. All in all they seem to be a pretty rugged, reliable machine, but I've never had anything to compare them to. Aside from a few nuts and bolts almost every component is proprietary to Unitec, including, I believe the modem since it has been programmed by them. Parts and service ain't cheap but once you get it setup to your liking you don't have to mess much with it. The coin cup is cast aluminum. It removes easily to re paint.

I used self etching primer, then enamel spray paint. I also had to send in my modem since I bought the WS2 from someone else his info was programmed into the modem. I replaced the decal and bought all new push buttons from Suzo Happ. I sent in the board and also uprgraded to the panasonic dual side reader.

There are some "deaf tone" settings you will have to set in both wash selects if they are going to be sharing a phone line. It's just a delay in how the modem answers and makes calls that allows transactions to not interfere with each other. It's in the manual somewhere.
