I have a high velocity with pricing at 6,7,8,10. I have not offered the dryers on the 6,7 but after looking at what other operators are doing i decided to. I turned them on and did a test wash then realized that with no wax the dryers just smeared the water with no beading. It would seem to give the customers the perception that the dryers didn't work well so I turned it back off. Any thoughts?

I'm $8,$9,$10,$12. Dryer on all. DA on all. No underbody/side blasters on $8. Underbody/side blasters on$9. Tri foam on $10. Wheel cleaner/rain x on $12. My best seller goes from top to bottom in order. I do add the DA to the HP rinse to knock off the presoaks to save time and water. Works pretty well.

Value proposition of commercial carwash is to clean, shine and protect customer’s vehicles.

If you want to attract customers, you need to deliver at least the same level of quality as what the customer can produce at home.

People do not normally wash and then let their vehicle air dry in the driveway.

Also note Gearhead’s price points are higher because of value-added.

In fact, by delivering a value proposition that customers can relate to better, he most likely has a better sales mix and higher average per car revenue than you do.

Conveyors can take the low road because of great hourly capacity whereas an in-bay has more to gain by taking the high road.

How you tweak the business model to get there is a matter of choice.

Gearhead, how are you applying wheel cleaner? Injecting into undercarriage, or do you have cta's??

I have a CTA placed before the undercarriage/side blasters. Works well if the customers interpretation of "enter wash slowly" is correct.

@ 2facer,

I actually use a alkaline presoak by Diamond shine called Assault. It was recommended to me by the Chemical rep. He said it was safe to use on all wheels. I haven't hurt any since using. I went this route because wheel cleaner specific chemical is a lot more expensive. I use a little more but its still less per application and works well for me. I may try a lo Ph to see if it does better on the brake dust, as per the Chemical Reps recommendation. He also says its safe on all wheels. That concerns me a bit. Of course, its more expensive.

I believe that any package that includes blowers should also include a drying aid or a CCP that will break on the surface of the vehicle. drying aids are cheap but many can smear on the windshield if applied too strongly.
