This is the student from South Dakota again. I have another question I need to answer for this business plan for one of my classes. For a 2 stall self-serve wash, what do you think would be an estimate for the utility bill? (Electrical, Water, Natural Gas). Also, is natural gas the best source of heating for a car wash?

Thanks everyone!

Bhtoplawn,

Look at the specifications of whatever heating device or system you have or may invest in. From there you can estimate the number of hours your heating device could potentially be on. From there ... if you chose Electric make sure that you match the BTUs of the alternative Natural Gas device or system. From there set up a spreadsheet of the Kw for Electric & the cubic feet for Natural Gas. Find out how much your utility company charges for Kw & for Natural Gas cubic foot. Multiply for different plausible scenarios of what you may need in terms of BTUs & you will see that especially in our part of the country Natural Gas tends to be by far the most reasonable over Electric when it comes to any kind of HEATING.

There are factors in calculating the BTUs necessary for a 2 bay ... is it floor heat or overhead unit heaters? ... there is glycol efficiency loss ... whether you have overhead doors ... insulated building ... lots of considerations come into play for your thesis. On that note ... I am turning you over to 2Biz &/or a similar experts on the forum.
