Was in Sam's club and saw this system.

Seems to have a great picture. it's 720P

Any thoughts on relative merit of 720P vs a1080 P .

Anyoune using a Samsung system?

Here are two links to images showing the difference between 720/1080:

1080p
720p

I think I'd be happy with a 720p system. I don't think you'd notice much of a difference unless you were watching it on a really big screen, but as you'll see from the pictures you get quite a bit more detail from the 1080p.

I don't have any experience with samsungs cameras but they make good TVs.

We just put in a HD 1080P camera system and the picture quality is excellent. You want to use Dome cameras so they can’t be knocked down or push up. Like these http://cctvdirectbuy.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=88&products_id=1202 We looked at systems from Costco and Sam’s and built our own system. One of our competitors put in a camera system that he got at one of the big warehouse clubs, the video quality isn’t that great and he’s had a lot of problems with it.

We have a samsung system from Cosco. Picture is just fine to see if the bays are dirty or see color and type of vehicle but if you need to zoom you're unlikely to get a readable license plate. We bought a separate camera with a focal zoom that we put at the entrance and you can get 75% of plates with that. If I had it to do over I'd buy a little better system. Reality is though you get 90 % of the benefits from a cheap system.

Randy - Did you get the DVR from the same place? I like the option to add a DVD Burner.

Yup we've been buying everything from them. You can find the individual components cheaper on line but the support is worth spending a few bucks more to me.

Wash4me, what model Samsung CCTV system do you have? We are thinking about purchasing a Samsung SDH-P5081. It is a hybrid system with 4 channels in 1080P and the remaining 12 channels in 720P. Anyone have any experience with this system?

I e-mailed my camera guy about the Samsung SDH-P5081 camera system. This is his reply:
“Doesn't look very good. Only 4 of the channels are HD. Also I think it is HD-TVI not HD-SDI which is a bad thing. The problem with that type of a camera they can be easily pushed up, you always want to use a Vandal resistant dome camera”
