    Spot Free Rinse Pumps

You need to find out how much output your IBA requires so you can size the pump correctly. I have had good luck with procon and rotary style pumps on SFR. They seem to last forever.

    Tip size impact

Mac, I think you are generally correct about distance factor. A variable would be the amount of water being used. A higher amount of water would retain more of its impact vs. a lower water amount at any given pressure.

    Tip size impact

The formula I found was in a catalog of Spray Systems. K x gpm @ pressure x ( square root of the psi used). K is equal to constant which for water ft. lbs is .0526 gpm ( gallons per minute at pressure) square root of 1000 = 31.62, SRof 1500 is 38.73 , SR of 1200 is 34.64 I looked at...

Hard water for the high pressure rinse in automatics

I have used hard water for the HP rinse for over 20 years on all my automatics. SFR takes care of any spotting for me. With 20 grain hard water it would not be cost effective for me to use soft water for the HP rinse.

    Baldor Motor Problems

If it is a 3 phase motor check to see that you have all 3 legs of the power to the motor.

    Tip size impact

We get a lot of questions on what tip size to use. I found the formula for converting the flow rate and pressure to Foot lbs. Once you have the foot lbs. for flow rate and pressure the only variable is the spread pattern of the tip. For example a 15 degree tip would have 3 times the impact of a...

Replacement of Pump to Boom hoses

I would upgrade to 1/2 inch with what ever you choose from pump to boom. You will have less friction lose and it is easier on your pumps.

How to change pump output pressure?

Your unloader valve can be adjusted to raise the pressure provided that you have enough motor and the pump is in good order.

    Waters spots after SFR.

I get several complaints a year about hard water spots. It is because we have 20 grain hardness and people park next to a sprinkler. I have to point out that the water spots are usually only one side of the car and explain it to them. When ever I get a water spot complaint the first thing I look...

I use 1508 tips. I like the higher volume as I spend much less time cleaning a bay now compared to when I used 2506.

    Easy Heat

2BIZ and PLJ use the cable as I do. I use 6 inch pvc pipe for my troughs and large plastic electrical boxes for my overhead solenoid enclosures. I do not have it insulated and have never had a freeze in the troughs or boxes. I just had some -25 below nights and have had worse.

    Easy Heat

Earl, I have used a similar heat tape made by Raytheon called winter guard wet. It has a extra layer of protection. I have used them in my troughs for over 20 years and have only had to replace the GFI unit inside the equipment room a couple of times but never the tape itself. I use it in 4 washes.

    Floor heat question

I have a couple of Voyager hot water tanks that come with copper tubes installed in the tank for this purpose. I have never used them for this as I have dedicated boilers for the floor heat. It would be possible to do what you are doing but you would probably need a long coil of copper in the...

Vac question at nearby SS wash

I used to offer one claw and one crevis tool per double vac island. Seemed like people were always removing them because they wanted what ever was not on the vac they chose. I went to the metal vac claw that is not curved and functions as both. I was afraid I would have theft with them so I...

    Rain X

I have used it for about 10 years in my IBA and SS bays. I like the product and think it has increased sales of my top wash. I usually use it on my own cars and do see the added shine. I think other products mimic its performance but they do not have the name recognition with the public. Rain X...

    More Hydrominder Talk

I always cut a hole in my discharge tube. I had a brand new SS system start siphoning within 2 weeks of install. I told the mfg. of the hole in the discharge tube trick and they had never heard of it but put it in place for future builds. I still run into operators who have never heard of...

    Any warm gloves recommendations

I buy multiple pairs of white cotton glove liners. They are easy to put on and if they get wet I grab another pair. .99 cents each and they work great for car wash work.

Any good service techs out there that are tired of the cold?

As a operator I do not mind paying $80 per hour and I understand travel time needs to be billed. I am in a area that is probably low on the service price per hour. I know I have a good tech and he can fix things much faster than most techs so I don't mind paying his fees.

Any good service techs out there that are tired of the cold?

It was -33 this morning here. I thought maybe I could qualify after 22 years of working on my own washes. Then I reconsidered I won't leave here unless it gets to -50.
