    A nation of sheep

Neither do I. People are trading liberty for a false sense of security.

    How are you all doing?

Whatever the case may be, the Chinese government has got to be looking at this as a happy accident or better than what they anticipated. The American economy is in tatters. Americans have lost many civil liberties. We are polarized even further.

Poll: Biden or Trump is best for my car wash?

I don't see Biden either. I'd like to add that the Democratic Party itself will hurt Biden. What I mean by this theory is that the Democratic Party has fostered a culture of belief that white people are privileged and bad. Old white men (i.e. Biden) are the worst of the worse. He's just not...

Poll: Biden or Trump is best for my car wash?

I'm in the no impact category. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and the state legislature have a greater impact on my business than whoever the president is. Hogan has shut us down. The state legislature had a big push to tax services that thankfully fell apart, but I know we're going to have to...

    How are you all doing?

If my car washes were open, I would be doing everything I could to show customers I'm anti-COVID-19. In general, I see so many businesses leaving money on the table and possibly closing because the owners' mindset with the customer base was that they should want and feel a certain way.

    Unattended tunnel incident

I myself would never do an unattended tunnel. Even while attended, I saw so much crazy stuff when my father and I had one.

    Typical yearly IBA throughput

We use LaserWash 4000s and M-5s. Our washes go from five to eight minutes. There's no way we could get one of those machines to do more than 20,000 cars a year. At one of our locations, we did 60,000 with three 4000s.

    Birds

Recently, at our rural location, we had a buzzard get into the mechanical room, scaring the you-know-what out of our city boy mechanic. He left the mechanical door open and returned many minutes later to find the buzzard gone. I hope it's not an omen for something.

How long will the covid19 virus be around...

I just learned the latest 60,000 projection is based off of the current policies being in place until August 4. I don't see that happening.

    Hand sanitizing stations

Same here. I have one in a bad rural area and one in a semi-bad suburban area.

    Bank not taking coins

With things so slow, I hate telling customers we're doing any change of policy. It's a lot easier to change policy when we're busy.

    Pit cleaning..

We used to have a waste pumping company do ours, but the price for them and anywhere else was way out of the ballpark. We then went to shoveling into wheelbarrows and shoveling into dumpsters. Then we use our skid loader and do it that way. We do it in-house and pay the employees who do it extra.

    Carwash Closings

That's where I'm at. I'm looking at the government as one of two things. The first is that the government is simply incompetent and has no idea what they're doing. The second is that they're simply manipulating the crisis to benefit themselves. Look at the projections. Originally up to 2.2...

    Attendant wages..

My father and I co-own three car washes. What we pay our self-service attendants depends on their skillsets. For instance, someone who is what we call a body (an attendant with no mechanical ability) is paid $11, Maryland's minimum wage. Our mechanically inclined attendants make $14/hour. Our...

    Crime and Covid-19

Unreal. The bureaucracy and cops know that any time a cop responds, there is always a risk the cop could die as a result of the job. If a person is not willing to take that chance as a cop, then don't join the force. I expect our tax dollars to pay for police to show up if we need them.

How long will the covid19 virus be around...

This is going to be a virus that ebbs and flows. The question is whether we attain herd immunity first through most people getting it or a vaccine. I'm curious as to what the federal and local governments are going to do to make sure the next flow that follows doesn't cripple the country.

Adding Shade Canopies to Vacuum/Dry Off Area

It's not something I would invest in. Most of your customers who vacuum and dry off are in and out quickly. I don't see it being worth doing for 2%. But how many people are going to come in just to vacuum in the rain? Those few who vacuum in the rain are ritualistic, or they have a big mess...

    Fulltime Car wash owner/operator?

You're asking the wrong question. You yourself know that in your current situation, expansion will be hard to do. Here's what I look at your main question as being, Do I keep the full-time job and my one car wash, or do I leave the full-time job in order to expand? Another question to ask...
