Chemical Containment - A New City Code

Never thought I would be reporting good news! I spoke with the Codes guy and after he explained all about secondary containment and its purpose he mentioned that we can't allow soaps to dump into the storm sewer. I mentioned to him that the floor drain in my equipment room is tied into the...

Chemical Containment - A New City Code

Thanks guys. This is what happens when little men are given big badges! I have to have the floor drain because it was sized to handle the discharge from the RPZ backflow preventer that they made me install. I'm going to ask for a copy of the code and read it myself. I know of garages that...

Chemical Containment - A New City Code

Just putting the finishing touches on a major refurb of an old wash and the City Codes guy comes along and mentions that we need to have a containment system in our mechanical room that will hold the volume of the largest size barel of chemcials that we have on hand. Have any of you ever run...

    Pay station height

Kirb, Big is right, it all depends on the paystation that you are mounting. We have PDQ Access units, and add 6" to the height that they spell out in their specs because we have a high concentration of SUV's and pickups in upstate NY. It's difficult to hit a height that is good for all makes...

Request to provide video of a crash

Thanks for the advice guys! I did ask my attorney and he recommended not giving out copies of the video unless it is subpoenaed through a court proceeding. He also suggested that I notify my insurance company of the accident and make them aware of the video request.

Request to provide video of a crash

Last week a car was pulling into my wash when they were rear ended by a minivan. I was out of town and didnt know anything about it until the next day. I just received a call from the husband of the "victim" and he asked me if he could get a copy off of my DVR showing the crash. I searched on...

    Forum Members Beware....Washworld is watching

I recently posted a thread about the issues I was having with one of my two new Laserwash machines from PDQ, hoping that the forums exposure would allow me access to other owner / operators that might have had the same issues. There was some good feedback from others, including the PDQ...

Add on Bill Acceptor Boxes in Bays

Earl, Your post sounds exactly like my experience. After searching around the ICA show floor at Orlando (2 years ago) I settled on the Etowah Valley bill acceptor box and mounted it on the side of my I-Wash coin box. It has a Coinco acceptor and 1 of the two failed within a month. I sent it...

Dog Wash Blow Dryers, Vac's or Both?

Buzzie8, Can you elaborate more on the statement that the Kleen Rite set up is a cleaner installation?? In particular, what do you like about Kleen Rite versus the National Pride setup. I haven't made my purchase yet, but am planning to this week. Thanks ScottV

Dog Wash Blow Dryers, Vac's or Both?

Big, I appreciate the feedback and money saving idea on the shop vac. I too thought the $500 option was a little steep. Thanks everyone for your input. ScottV

Dog Wash Blow Dryers, Vac's or Both?

I'm finally getting ready to pull the trigger on buying 2 pet wash systems and wondered if any of you experienced operators can shed some light on the pro's / con's of dryers vs. vacs. I'm leaning toward the National Pride equipment and they have a blower as standard equipment. They offer a...

PDQ M5 - Double washing cars before they exit

OK, I appreciate the ideas. I guess if the doors were wired wrong, this problem would have cropped up 4 years ago. They eye's might be bad, and we can check that, however the tech was watching a status screen on the PC while a car was being washed and the signals from the door eyes...

PDQ M5 - Double washing cars before they exit

I've been having a problem with my M5 and hoped that some of you might have already experienced / solved this. During the final dry pass, the exit door is programmed to open when the bridge see's the middle flag. Once the dry pass is completed the machine tells the vehicle to leave the bay...

    2010 For F-150 mirror

Did your IBA arch stike the mirror, or do you think it cracked from the HP water? I have a 2010 F-150 and haven't had a problem yet.

    New Laserwash Machine - problems

I'm nervous about saying that I think they have fixed the machine, because everytime we think that, something else pops up and bites us in the a*s! PDQ talked my own maintenance guy through the process of matching the wiring that he was seeing to the schematics that PDQ was looking at in Green...

    Sales Tax?

Here in the Empire State (NY) we must charge 8% tax on vended items. If a customer purchases a wash (IBA, Tunnel or SS) with cash, coin, or token they are tax exempt. If they use a credit card, we must charge 8% sales tax as well. Try explaining that to the general public!

    RayPak High Limit Popping

I also have a Rapac that is 5 years old. My modulating valve is set at 4 until it becomes severely cold out and I increase it to 6. My Heating and Cooling guy told me it would run more efficiently that way.

    New Laserwash Machine - problems

An update. It's January 4th, and I am still unable to wash cars in this bay. The side measurement issue has not yet been resolved. My distributor has been onsite each week, more or less, from the time that they finished the install (Nov 24th) but the machine will not consistenly measure the...

    New Laserwash Machine - problems

Well, lets see if I can remember them. There was a casting that was cracking but has been replaced with an more robust version. It is where the shaft of the arch drops down through the box. I would assume all new models will be shipped with the upgrade. We were also getting wash aborts -...
