Wireless Backup to Phone lIne Alarm System

This happened to me, too. I mistakenly thought that if the phone line was cut that in itself would signal the alarm company. WRONG!!!! I pay an extra $15/month for cell back up and negotiated the install price down from $300 to $200. I sleep much better at night.

Florida Owners - I Need your advice

With the aid of my alarm company, surveillance system and the local sheriff's dept. we caught 3 burglars 3 weeks ago. However, now the asst. DA doesn't really know what to charge them with. They attacked the ACW - which he thinks should be classified as a vending machine. He doesn't think...

    It's a family affair

The newly installed shock sensors on my ACW's were field tested this week. Two guys with a large hammer. On the first whack the alarm sounded and these guys (who were on foot) walked away. Within minutes, the alarm company called me, I told them to send the police and then I reviewed my...

    Being on-site

I have a 60 year old attendant/cleaner there during the day and a 19 year old onsite on the weekends. Both give excellent customer service, make change, keep things clean. Happy to say I have had both since I opened 4 years ago. At times, I think their customer service is better than mine...

    Self Storage and Self Serves

I built and opened my mini-storage about 2 years ago. We hit 54% occupancy and have not budged past that. We loose one or two units per week and pick up one or two units per week. We need to be at about 80% occupancy to break even. Our rates are lower than our competition and we run a...

    Sherwin Williams Car Wash Paint?

I used Sherwin Williams on all of my bays - new construction, followed the directions to the letter, let cure for 30 days. I WOULD NEVER DO IT AGAIN. The paint is peeling in the auto bays and we tried to repaint in the s.s. bays and the fresh paint peeled right off. I have never heard of this...

    Customer claims dryer damage

Sounds like a reasonable guy. I believe he told me that this is a newly purchased used car. Is it possible that this is the result of repaired hail damage??

Sand Pit Pumping - Looking for ways to minimize the cost

I hired a teenager and bought some waders. He climbed in and scooped everything out. We placed it behind the dumpster to let it dry out and then he came back again to shovel it into the dumpster> Saved me at least $1200 this year and he was happy to earn the extra money.

What is the dumbest business decision you made at your SS wash?

My biggest mistake was not putting all 6 vacs in the front of the wash> If I had done that I could then have had only one changer and that would have been in the front of the wash along with vending. As it is now, largest changer and vending are in the back of the wash and can be vandalized...
