Looking for some opinion's on a outside the box idea. I'm looking at giving a gas discount on an express detail with my price's ranging from 45 to 59 for my five express detail service's. I currently give 20 cent's off a gallon on a carwash. I was wondering what opinion's you guy's may have of this. I can make it from a software standpoint DRB and Dresser Wayne run very smooth with it purchsed right from the pump. The pump would also very easily roll back .75 cent's right in front of the customer. The screen display is a 12 inch screen and very eye catching and full color. I'm wondering what the positive and negative's would be. Staffing is not an issue as i pretty much already everyday run 4-8 full time detail and express detail people 7 day's a week. I truly believe it would be a good problem to have if i had to staff up. I'm looking in 2011 to lift my express detail by about 30 to 40%. So Robert Roman, Steve Okun, and uncle Bud Abraham very curious of your opinion's, my market and pricing allow's me room to be aggressive with gas discounting. I will also state that my average fill up is 10 gallon's even at 15 gallon's the discount is 11.25 cent's. My service advisor's on a daily already discount 10.00 dollar's when selling express. I will state that this would also cut into the commision on my advisor's as the customer would just come from the pump with a code and enter in into my DRB XPT'S and go through the wash. The carwash is included in the service. The major issue i see is the customer that may not understand what the service is but i think i can handle that with C-store staff and very creative signage. They would also not be able to pick multiple service's like some do now, again a problem i can live with just give them there other service when they get to the aftercare. My after care is 6 bay's 3 by 2 with stacking for about 12 car's outside the shop. So any opinion's from anybody would be greatly appreciated i'm very very very serious about this idea thank's.

Yes you can when it's when it grouped with another profit center promotion. It doesn't matter how big the discount is everybody does it with carwashing it's just a much deeper discount. Supermarket's do it all over the country everyday every hour with even bigger discount's.

New Investor, the bottom line is that you need to make a profit. You also have to experiment with different plans to attract business. Nothing will always work and what works this week, might be a flop, next week. Over the years, I found that things that worked in Seattle (a much bigger city) wouldn't work for me, and vis-versa.

I just read a good book, called Outrageous Advertising, that's outrageously successful by Bill Glazer. It was worth the read.
