For simple standalone business I use Quickbooks One program can handle multiple entities. (You only pay once for that and I can e-mail the accountant whatever year end reports they need. ) I use if for my personal stuff as well as 3 separate businesses that have less than a dozen or so entries per month. For more involved stuff where there may be 50 entries per month and I want access from multiple locations as well as bookkeeper and accountant access I use QuickBooks on line. There is a monthly charge for each company.

What is this? We are still using Quickbooks 2013 desktop and they told us we can't upgrade to anything except to subscription based.

This is a single quickbooks desktop program. I get some notices about the browser being out of date so I should upgrade but I don't see the need to since I don't use the browser.

For what reason would you need to upgrade?

It crashes on a regular basis and Quickbooks no longer supports it.

I use AccountEdge. I buy the standalone program because I HATE subscription services. AccountEdge is available for both Mac and PC. It used to be called MYOB.

I'm a satisfied user for close to 30 years.

FWIW, If want to do your own payroll.....take a look at PayWindow. Same deal. It's a standalone program and the annual updates are less than $50.

I can run a bi-weekly payroll for my 3 employees in less than 10 minutes.

Again, my only association is as a satisfied customer.
