ACW lost my settings???

If your ACW loses it's memory or the display says "Memory Data Altered" the battery that holds he memory is going dead. On the Goldline controller the battery is soldered to the controller board. you'll have to send it to Hamilton for repair.

If you keep it long enough you will. The ACW-4 controller uses a BRAM module that plugs into the main board, it can be serviced in the field.

I have UPSs on all my American Changer units, because a quick up or down on voltage would make the screen go blank. The UPS installation solved it.

It all depends on which model ACW you have. The ACW-4/5’s use a BRAM module, it plugs into board. You can do the ACW-4/5 without much help. The Goldline ACW’s the battery is soldered to the board, I wouldn’t recommend doing that one yourself.

Not sure if the following additional comment will help for some attempting to do the more challenging "in the field solder repairs" because there could be other technicalities specific to The Goldline ACW of which you are probably the most familiar with compared to anybody else active on this specific forum.

We have found that a large lighted magnifier on a good workbench setting has been helpful for more challenging finer printed circuit board work.

FWIW.....several years back, I had the same symptoms. I found the "smart socket" on the board....and mine was a Dallas DS1216C. It's simply a small battery type device packaged in a DIP-28 piggyback socket.

I just simply replaced the old one with the new.....and then took the ROM from atop the old unit, and put it on the new one.

There's not really much to it.

This was for an ACW IV by the way.

That’s the correct way to change BRAM module on the ACW-4. The challenge is the get it installed in right direction.

For that kind of close work, it can also be helpful to be near sighted instead of far sighted. I had cataract surgery done on both eyes so I no longer have that built in advantage like some others.

Sure that'll work. Just make sure you plug it in the right way. You can also use a Dallas DS1243Y-120
