I have a customer with a new double IBA that has tire shine & free vac. It is attended during normal business hours, and he now wants to add a "full service" option to his wash packages where the attendant cleans the interior of the car and towel wipes down the exterior.

I would appreciate any thoughts or opinions. Thanks!

Consider TOTAL-SERVICE At Select Times

I recommend hands-on after-care services to those in-bay customers who seek more than simply an exterior-only wash. As a rule, full-service customers have preconditioned expectations, so why risk the confusion of using the terminology "full-service"?;)

Offering customers a choice of various services, and calling your operation a TOTAL-SERVICE Wash offers the marketplace the diversity of exterior-only, deluxe-exterior (hand-finishing), and numerous choices of hands-on detailing (weather permitting). Offer self-serve vacuuming or after-care vacuum services done by detail staff.

The flexibility can be tailored to your marketplace demand, and easily adapted to changes for special weekend and holiday services. Flex-Serve provides the adaptability and the flexible format. No more than 2 cross-trained detailers needed; more as business demand grows, and only at select times. YOU can offer more than traditional full-service... while avoiding the huge overhead... by simply utilizing a staff of TWO! :)

Dirty Harry,

I have a client/friend with a similar wash that is in the launch phase.

This owner plans to explore this option, adding services like interior vacuum, express wax, etc., at sometime in the future after he gets his feet wet and arms around the business of washing cars.

I also have a client/friend with an express exterior tunnel with free use vacuums. He has been open for several years. His decision to offer detailing services was at the continuous insistence of his customers. He has been slowly introducing these services incrementally.

He started out with a hand-prep service at the tunnel entrance. About 25% of his customers are buying this at $4.00 a pop. Recently, he introduced a wheel deal service that includes hand-prep and toweling drying, tire shine and brake dust protection performed in the vacuum area. Out of the gate, about 10% of his customers are buying this at $8.00 a pop. Later this year, he plans to offer an interior vacuum service and probably a hand-wax service.

Whether this is would be in the best interest of your client would depend his and your previous experience, current performance of the wash and the local market; segmentation, competitive environment, climate and other site location factors.

I would not want to suggest how to proceed without knowing more about the situation.

I like the "Wheel Deal" idea.

Do you mean the whole car is prepped with the wheel deal?

What do you use as a 'brake dust preventer"?

Is this something you'd feel comfortable offering Friday, Sat., Sun only?
