Adding Monex readers

Hello, I’m South of Houston in Dickinson. Took over an abandoned wash last year and remodeled it this spring. My goal was for the equipment to be reliable and my site to be safe and clean 24/7. I also added the Monex timers, programmed to countup in the wash bays and a set time at the vacuums.

Bays $3 = 4 min to start, every pulse is $0.25 = 20 seconds. $20 preauthori
Vacuums $2 = 4 min

Average cc charge in the Bays is $8

I was very hesitant to go at this price but decided to make the move. Only time I hear a complaint is when something malfunctions, which is pretty rare now. Like someone said above, crank up your chemicals! Every customer I’ve talked to tells me how much they love the high pressure and how well the chemicals work.

don’t be afraid to charge more! Someone in the area who once owned a several self serve car washes gave me a speech on pricing. I trusted him and gave it a shot. Big thing I noticed it drastically eliminated bucket washing. No regrets about my move.

Thanks for the input! Maybe I'll settle somewhere between the other washes.

My readers arrived today... I only got 2 installed. Broke 4 drill bits on the doors, not used to drilling SS I see you need to go slow and push HARD. Will be working on the others this weekend.

Nice! Buy the Milwaukee bits for stainless steel. Also get you a unibit or step drill bit and put a touch of oil/wd40 on metal where you are drilling. Makes life much easier. You hard wiring with Ethernet to all your bays or using their internet router?

Their router. That only took 5 minutes to set up. Snapped 2 normal bits and bought 2 Milwaukee hard metal bits. Melted those and bought 2 more.

You want Milwaukee cobalt bits for stainless. Like you said, push hard and go slow. Start with a small bit for a pilot hole, like 1/8", then either several larger bits or a step drill. The Bauer from Harbor freight are surprisingly good, and really cheap. Do not center punch for stainless, or you'll create a work-hardened point right where you want to drill.

The HF cobalt step bit with my impact driver instead of drill worked fabulously. All 6 are installed but need to get with tech support to configure them, on count up the timer is running out before the reader hits with a pulse after the initial.

They set these up on count up but a quarter value super high, like .25/min so I can't even reset prices in the bay temporarily because that's too cheap.

How did these terminals work out?
Was count up the way to go, or the preset pricing?
any technical issues?

I’ve had these installed last week, and besides not liking how they programmed the pricing..these are slick.
Customers starting using them immediately.
Cool.
So why’d they have to dick up the programming, and how did you fix that up?

The new account setup team had just screwed up when setting up the profile for the devices, we sorted that out over the phone and I've hardly had to give a thought to them since.

Overall great move. Significant increase to totals and tap utilization is even higher than I would have thought, maybe 70%

Count up is great! $7-10 typical. Never hear from anyone over the $16 charges and there are plenty. I did put up a sign explaining it and to press stop on screen when finished.
