Air Compressor Regulator with Filter location

I am in the process of re-piping my air line from the air compressor with a combination regulator filter unit but I'm told to move it a minimum of 20ft away from the compressor to allow the the hot air to cool so the filter can remove the moisture better, currently the old unit is within 6ft of the compressor.

IMO the closer to point of use the better for the filters - yes to allow air to cool so the condensate is the removed.

You can run it to the ceiling and back down in a sizable copper pipe so it will drain mostcondensate back to tank.

We decided to do it like Earl said near the point of use, recently we would hear fluid in the main pipe next to the compressor and it would not seem to move until we shut off the air and bleed the main pipe.
