:D Greetings! Just curious...what amenities do you have that make your many hours at your wash more "livable" or convenient or...what do you WISH you had? I remember years ago reading a forum post here where someone who was designing their carwash thought about NOT putting in a restroom for themselves and in my opinion that would be a MUST HAVE. So anyhow, to answer my own question, I'm tired of the mini-fridge we have here since vending candies take up most of its space so I wish we had a bigger refrigerator. I wish I'd have installed a shower inside our attendant restroom 'cause we get so dirty cleaning out vacs or helping lift a smelly dog up into the tub, but I guess there's always the ss bays available to use for this, LOL! I like that we have a microwave to heat up mid-morning or mid-afternoon snacks. We don't have a TV here so if a momentous event happens in the world, we have no visual to check out immediately of the news as it transpires, but there's the Internet for that nowadays. We do have high-speed Internet in the office. No fax machine hasn't been a big deal for us really. - Carl

You have it pretty good at the wash. I guess we have no amenities nothing for food, we do have a Tv as is it used for cameras, but have a second TV over the shurvend With a local channel that does wx all day with radio audio.
If i built another i would put 3-4 apts on top for rental income, as thats my other job. With 5 washes it's 100% business for me, I go home for the amenities, If i came home with a fresh shower the wife would think i had to wash off perfume or something in that category. It would make staying at the wash more enjoyable.

Interesting topic.
Our wash is a third job, so it's our intention to keep things working well and spend less hours on site. So personal amenities are few.
- Toilet is mandatory.
- A sink for washing my hands - wish I had one but dont have a good place to put it.
- Pizza shop next door is nice, everybody should have one of those.
- Radio is nice. TV would distract me from working.
- Snacks on the vending supply shelf were nice for a while, but now the teenage help eats it all.
- First aid. We have bandaids & bandages, tylenol, eye wash, some other basics. Comes in handy now and then.
- Somewhere to lock our bicycles would be nice. (We ride into town a lot in the summer, about 5 miles.)
- Knee high rubber boots for when I'm wearing a suit & dont have anything to change into.

Not much help, am I? :)

I always build my washes a little taller than most. I have the equipment room built so that most of the conduits and water pipes are run low on the walls during construction. After the wash is up and running I start to build the second story in my spare time while at the wash. I have built myself an office this way and a apartment that Bill mentioned. THe floor joist are from lumber I have to buy during the car wsh construction. The door openings for the bays have to be supported with lumber while block is being laid and concrete poured. I have always had to buy that lumber so rather than let contractors keep it I use it to construct the second floor in the equipment room in my spare time at very little expense.

If I had to do it again I would bring the slopes of the bays further out that people can't wash their cars half inside and half outside the bay and dirty water running into the yard. Would make my life easier.

I have a separate detail shop at my carwash and it features a shower. Not for washing off perfume; more for washing off bio hazards from especially crummy detail jobs.

We have a full size fridge, micro wave, coffee pot and an indoor as well as outdoor break tables for employees.

Just a word of caution - Burger King was sued for dispensing medicine without a license because one of their stores gave some aspirin to a customer. Keep your antenas up when using first aid.
