Why is that not surprising , there are some sorry people. Before I put my cameras up some dirtbag left a dead dog in my trash can. I mean wth, hard to be shocked anymore. Sorry that happened to ya

Wow--I just had that happen to me a couple of weeks ago. Guy was taking his coat off, and mashed the gas--went right through the door just like that. Fortunately, he stopped and called the police. It was a $5500 mistake, that his insurance just sent me the check for. Happy ending for me, cause those four panels needed replacing anyhow.

Pdq g5 Bay had a high bus voltage fault to the Vfd drive which ended the wash early. She panicked and waited all of 5 seconds before pulling forward and pushing into the door and bowing it out which jammed it in place. Then about 5-10 seconds later she said F it and drove right through it! turns our her mom said she was mentally handicapped and panicked. However she compounded her problems by going home and telling her mom she got hit in a hit and run. Her mom made her report it to the police which led to her almost being charged with filing a false report..... it just sucked because we just finished repairing this door two weeks ago, but a new one is even better!

It sounds like both of you will be somewhat reimbursed but it still tends to be bad news from a down time standpoint also!

Anybody have someone hit your overhead door & tried to twist the facts as to what happened ... so to try to convince police or whoever ... it was not their fault. So far we have been lucky that way.

We have our customers control opening the overhead doors at our self service themselves (signs stating that the door should be 100% opened & not left part way) before entering or leaving. Sometimes I worry about auto opening doors 100% with photo eyes etc at my competition creating what I believe is in not the best fit "long term standard norm if you will" for car washes in general. Possibly raising the expectation bar for all of us car washers IMHO!

She may in fact have a disability. However, 1 of the biggest scams being perpetrated upon America right now, is the MULTI-BILLION dollar scam of parents falsely labeling their kids with every disability known to man!
Then, the parents get Govt money, based on how many disabilities their kids have. Furthermore, the schools then in turn, have to make 1000 accommodations for these FAKE disabilities, meaning the teachers are doing 3x---5x the normal amount of work. Schools have to hire "specialists" to deal w/ all the extra FAKE disabilities = less $$ for regular students = FUBAR!
Then, those sorry A$$ parents get a massive check back @ tax time! WTH

I had a guy with a ladder on his ladder rack come into my touch free. Ladder was sticking out the back 4’. Arch hit it spun ladder and propped it up. He floored it and damaged 3 dryers, the cover of the M5 and the wall.
Over 15k. Thank God I had a camera. He left as fast as he could

Same thing happened to us a month ago. She claimed that her car somehow came out of park, the gas pedal fell to the floor, and propelled her through our door. We caught her because she called to complain that there was still soap on her car. Then it slipped out that she had drove through the door halfway through the wash cycle. Unbelievable…

Fortunately, we too we reimbursed.

Still waiting for this customers insurance to pay us, they keep claiming that because of the coronavirus shutdowns they are shortstaffed and it is all still under review. Her insurance is allstate. Its been 6 weeks since i forwarded all the info to them that they requested from us. Last question they had for me was how old were the doors, i assume they will try to depreciate the door which really sucks because i had doors that worked when the customer arrived and didnt when she left! Why should i have to pay out of pocket to repair ANYTHING simply because of its age.

Allstate will try to drag this out till you give up,age of door today something else tomorrow and on and on

Might check with your insurance carrier to see if they might pay then go after Allstate. We had something similar happen and that’s what we had to do. The opposing insurance carrier suddenly found their checkbook once ours got involved.

Wow , that sucks. Progressive paid me right away within one week of sending them the service bill; full amount for replacement of panels with labor- no depreciation. Do not let them depreciate. Doors are not something you would routinely replace.

I would go to your insurance and get them to pay you directly then they will go after the other persons insurance.

I wouldn't and don't have time to deal with crap like that.....I would tell them they will be hearing from my attorney next....I bet that gets the ball moving.

Do they know they have to pay downtime? And if you replace the door on your own and send in the expense, that is the expense they are on the hook for. The cash value argument would be valid if they could prove that you get the door replaced with that value... But you can't. Its not like a used car.

Ideally, because they are giving you unfair delays & arguments ... it would be nice if they wound up paying a bit more. Let us know if you can swing that.

I remember a door incident cause by a trucker to our RV bay. The mega-sized trucking company's (a former college wrestler standout) point man played around with us ... he demanded newer cost estimates ... than a one year old estimate that I had originally given him. The company wound up paying more!!! He said the company would accept only written estimates that were 100% current. I remember even having him contact an ovd door company in a city closer to his office after getting a verbal from them ... because he seemed to think I was rigging the estimates locally.

The three of us fixed the damage with our "in house stocked overhead door panels" to avoid downtime ... so downtime was drastically less! For some reason he could not wrap his mind around that "extra goodwill" from our end!!! None of the locals ever stock those Alaskan Overhead Door Panels.

Can you imagine ... without 100% Proof Video ... what the results might be???

I wish i still had the video of the guy who gutted, skinned, and then proceeded to use the high pressure spray gun to wash out the deer carcass in one of my hand bays.
You know how hard it is to get deer fat off the walls of your car wash bay?

Im not even trying to go after downtime money, we initially tried and they instantly went to, "well your a three bay car wash so technically you werent down completely" and because of virus shutdowns everything is slower so trying to prove how much we have lost would have been a nightmare and dragged this out forever. That was assuming they woukd cut us a check for the door replacement quickly. This is the worst insurance company i have had to deal with in the 6 years ive been running these washes.

I am not willing to go through our insurance because we already had our last insurer drop us after 2 vandalism events totalling about 30k within a 1 year timeframe even though there have never been any other claims. Trying to find another insurer after being dropped was not easy or cheap, so i dont even want to raise the issue with our carrierover this.

The legal route is next but i need them to actually respond to the claim first. It is taking 4-5 days for them to even respond to emails at this point. I am considering filing a lawsuit against the driver/owner of the vehicle as a way of spurring her insurer to pay us. What do i care about who insures her? She is technically the one that owes me the money. I would try to go the small claims route but the amount is just over the total of the repair with labor.

You don't need to be completely down to be owed downtime. Why don't you press for 1/3 of revenue less expenses so the longer it's dragged out, the more they owe?
