For the Portal TI, by default you can use Mercury Payment Processing for credit cards or in order to use other payment processors, you have to buy a $1600 add on card. Anyone use Mercury and can comment on their fees and such? I doubt it would be anything crazy, but I already use paymentech for my swipenclean so I would have to have two processors if I used mercury.

I use Mercury Payment Systems. I looked at my last 2 months and total fees were 6.2%. Have not had any problems with their service.

That seems like BS to me. Charging you $1600 to use another credit card provider tells me that someone is getting a pretty good kick back on the credit cards fees.

What monthly fee do they charge you? Unitec says that the software in the portal is coded to work with Mercury, in order to add other processors they have to add an interface card. So yes, they are getting some nice incentive from Mercury, but wow, $1600 for the card?

They charged a monthly maint. fee of 15.95, statement fee of 9.95 ( have to check to see if I can drop that, if that is a paper fee, because I check my account online), and several other smaller fees. Two of the higher of these charges.... the debt smtkt fee is 1.55% +. 04 per charge, and the visa smkt fee is 1.65%. I can only say good things about Mercury in my dealings with them.

I just did the math on my last Paymentech statement and total fees came out to 4.25%. There is only a $5 monthly service fee, I don't see any of the others you mention. I would for sure try to get rid of that statement fee, most processors waive it if you just use email.

To clarify, Unitec now offers 2 software options, as well as direct interfaces to certain POS systems in the C-Store market. To support other processors, we integrate a 3rd party credit terminal and that device is the source of the upcharge.
If you have additional questions, please contact Unitec's Merchant Services Department.
Thank you!

I decided to go with Mercury as their rates were not that bad and the only feel they charge was a $9.95 monthly fee, but they agreed to lower it to $5 to match Paymentech, so it wasn't bad at all.
