Bad Control Board diagnosed?

AMS visi combo pops braker rocker switch on 24vdc transformer.

does this with power only cable connected to control board.

unplugged one at a time all other control board connectors (plugs) until only power was connected. power only connected trips braker on 24vdc transformer.

also tested continuity of black and red wires from transformer to control board (test ok)

bad control board?

The 24 VAC breaker on the transformer is what I think you are referring to. We have only seen this situation 1 or 2 times and it usually either the bill validator or the changer with the short if it isn't the red or black wires. The way we find out what is shorting out is to unplug everything on the control board even the power plug. Turn the breaker on; if it blows the breaker then you have a short in the on/off switch or the red/black power wires. If this is all good then turn the switch off and plug in the power harness to the board only. If it blows then the board is bad; if not add one plug at a time until you blow the breaker. Separate the changer and the validator on the end of the MDB harness so you know which is good.

well now i am not getting 24vdc power at the transformer or red and black wires when i connect the to the transformer.

what the heck is going on? bad 24vdc transformer?

There is usually a circuit breaker on the 24 vac side of the transformer that may need to be reset. Circuit breakers can be very squirrelly sometimes. If you still do not get any 24 vac output at the transformer and you have 120 vac power coming in, the transformer can be bad. After all the vendor is not a "spring chicken" anymore; parts do wear out.

If you are getting intermittent power on either the 120 vac or the 24 vac side of the transformer, you may have a loose plug, a break, or a loose wire in one of the harnesses.

looks like a bad power correlator on main control board. new one ordered. will install part into control board and test, then update again. thanks!

a friend has been helping me with it.

it was a part called a bridge rectifier. a friend of mine is really good with circuit boards and he took the board home and diagnosed/repaired it.

With shipping it cost under $5 for the part.

I still have to troubleshoot the 'no cooling' issue I have had. That's next now that the vendor is working again.

You are one lucky guy to have a friend who is good at this kind of repair. I have tried to use the "commercial guys" to repair the boards and they want $90-$100 minimum plus parts no matter what is wrong. So we always put in new boards rather than repair them.
