One of Saber automatic washes has an issue where every few washes the butterfly arms will close on the vehicle. The arms close right as our tri-foam cycle is about to begin. We've looked at the butterfly collar and prix sensor and they seem to be fine. The motor and gear box are fairly new so it most likely isn't either of those. Could it have something to do with the photo eye sensors or the sonar sensors? Has anyone else ever had an issue like this? Thanks for any responses.

It shouldn't be an issue with the butterfly prox because if something were that out of whack the machine would just shut down with a butterfly error. Does it seem to drift farther from the front or rear on each pass? That would point to a carriage prox issue or low tire pressure that causes slipping on the rails. It could be a sonar issue, but you may have to watch I/O and see if you lose input where it shouldn't. Quickest way I can think of to check if it's a bad sonar would be to swap front and rear.

The arms close in front of the mirrors on the vehicles and then bump the mirrors. Then the arms open to home, and the wash progresses to the spot free cycle and then wash ends. The carriage never goes past the middle of the car when this problem happens.

Then it's probably not the carriage prox or tires. I'd watch the I/O while it runs until you see it happen.

Did you ever find a fix for this problem? We are having the exact same problem on our wash.

Had a Kondor doing something similar it turned out to be the sonar tipped the sonar about 1/2-1 bubble on the level towards the drivers side on both and the problem was gone. It had something to do with bouncing back to the ceiling telling it it was ok to butterfly
