The new software version in our ShurVend vendors allows us to operate a bill validator only or a bill validator/credit card combination. Prior to this version the vendor always required a changer to be installed in the vendor to give change. Now we can price selections in $1 increments and eliminate the coin changer option. This may appeal to some operators who don't want to handle coins anymore.

The way we handle this in the vendor is to temporarily "blank Off" the coin slot so no one can use coins and plug up the refund button hole so it is not operable. That allows the operators to change their mind at some time in the future if they want to start taking coins or tokens in the vendor and can easily unplug the refund slot and coin slot to install a changer.

So how do we handle a "refund" when there is a bill validator only installed? One dollar bills that are tendered can be refunded by using the selection pad key "C/#" on the vendor. In this case the bill validator should usually be programmed to validate only $1 bills. If any selection in the vendor is priced at $5 or $10, then the $5 and $10 dollar bill acceptance on the bill validator can be activated.

If the operator adds the credit card reader then the customer can choose what ever selections they want and the credit card system will take care of it. Inch by inch we are getting closer and closer to a completely cashless car wash site.

Those of you who are going to be in Orlando next month for the World Car Care Expo can come by Booth #1372 to get any questions about this system answered or see the new Wickets (RF) cashless system demonstrated.

Hope to see many of you there.

We learned something today that we didn't know about the new AC software version in the vendor. In the post above we talked about a bill validator and credit card reader as the only 2 options.

Today we are talking about a bill validator and coin changer as the only 2 options. (Usually the standard set-up) If the control board in the vendor sees a coin changer in the system and the changer goes down for any reason, the vendor will be shut down. If there is only a bill changer in the vendor and no changer, then the vendor will operate with only the bill validator. This means all pricing needs to be in $1 increments.

What this means to operators is if for any reason the coin changer stops working, then you can disconnect the changer and just use the bill validator to run the machine. You might have to change some pricing, but you can still operate the vendor while you get your changer repaired at the appropriate service center.

If the bill validator goes down, then you can disconnect the validator and just operate the vendor with the changer. This was the standard way until this new software.
